Upfront costs are locking too many people out of a place to call home.

For many, the cost of a deposit and rent in advance is an impossible barrier when you're already struggling. That’s why, with the help of the Tenancy Deposit Scheme we’re expanding our deposit support, helping more people access safe, stable housing in the private rental sector.

A small amount of support at the right time can change everything.

2,798 people in Lagan Valley are officially experiencing homelessness.

That's 2,798 people without the security and stability of a place to call home.

Behind the statistics, there is hope. Last year, our Tenancy Deposit Service helped 8 households move into the private rented sector, while our 4 Creating Homes properties continue to provide safe, secure homes for people rebuilding their lives.

Because the right support can be the start of a new chapter. Your support helps us create more opportunities for people to access a safe place to call home. Visit our website and see how you can help. - https://simoncommunity.org/volunteer/

When people think about homelessness, they often think about housing.

But behind every door is a person working towards the future they want for themselves.

The latest homelessness data for Northern Ireland shows a system under unprecedented pressure and thousands of people feeling the impact.

β€’ Over 16,000 households presented as homeless in 25/26, including a record number of care leavers
β€’ Hundreds of families lost their homes after being forced out of the private rented sector
β€’ More than 4,800 children are now living in temporary accommodation, without a stable place to call home

We need urgent, coordinated action to tackle the homelessness crisis.

That means government:
β€’ Building more social homes
β€’ Properly funding homelessness prevention
β€’ Every department stepping up to ensure everyone has a safe, secure place to live

Homelessness is not inevitable. With the right action, we can end it.

Positive to see MLAs vote in favour this week of repealing outdated vagrancy laws that criminalise rough sleeping and begging. This decision will mean no one in Northern Ireland will be treated as a criminal simply for not having a safe place to call home or for asking for help to survive.

Alongside others in the homelessness sector, Simon Community has long called for this change, and we welcome MLAs’ support for a more compassionate response to homelessness, poverty and trauma. As highlighted during Monday’s debate on the Justice Bill, stigma and criminalisation do not solve homelessness β€” support, housing and prevention do.

This vote is an important step forward in reducing the stigma around homelessness. Thank you to Justice Minister Naomi Long for bringing forward these proposals and to all MLAs who backed them. We look forward to seeing these changes become law in the near future.

Today, an incredible group of supporters took on our Abseil at The Europa.

Right now, 63,426 people in Northern Ireland are experiencing homelessness. Every pound raised, every conversation started and every person who took part today helps bring support and hope to the people we support.

To everyone who abseiled, donated, cheered from the ground or helped make the day happen thank you. You were amazing, thank you!

See a someone you know, tag them!

As part of , we're launching a new opportunity for people who want to make a difference in their community.

Homelessness affects thousands of people across Northern Ireland, yet many misconceptions still exist about why people become homeless and what support looks like.

We're looking for volunteers who are passionate about helping others understand the realities of homelessness. Through conversations in schools, workplaces and community groups, Community Advocates help challenge stigma, raise awareness and inspire action.

You don't need to be an expert. You don't need experience in homelessness services. If you're comfortable speaking with others and want to use your voice to create positive change, we'll provide all the training and support you need.
