Just days after I issued a statement condemning the disgraceful sectarian attack on the McCurrie & Neill Memorial, it has once again been targeted.

This repeated attack is utterly sickening. It demonstrates a deliberate and sustained campaign of hatred against a memorial dedicated to innocent victims of terrorism. Such behaviour has absolutely no place in a civilised society.

For the second time in just one week, Mr McCurrie's widow, now well into her 90s, has been forced to witness this appalling sectarian attack on the memorial to her late husband. It is difficult to imagine the hurt and distress this repeated targeting will cause her and the wider families of the innocent victims remembered there.

I again call on those responsible to be identified and brought before the courts. This cannot simply be dismissed as mindless vandalism; it is a sectarian attack on the memory of innocent people who lost their lives.

I will continue to press the relevant authorities to ensure the memorial is restored without delay and that every possible step is taken to prevent these shameful attacks from happening again. Those who believe they can intimidate or erase the memory of innocent victims will not succeed.

DUP Councillor Bradley Ferguson has condemned an attack on the memorial garden to Jimmy McCurrie and Bobby Neill who were murdered by the Provisional IRA in June 1970.

The memorial, which has been previously attacked, most recently in 2024, had paint thrown over it.

Cllr Ferguson said, “The McCurrie family made me aware of the latest attack on the memorial, which is not just an insult to those commemorated on it, but particularly to the families, including Jimmy McCurrie’s wife who is now 96 years old and is having to deal with being retraumatised by yet another sectarian attack on this memorial.

It is important there is leadership from across the community to condemn this attack. Also, anyone with information should contact the police to assist with identifying those responsible. Attacks on this memorial, and on the families who take comfort from it must stop.”

Titanic Councillor Ruth Brooks added, “The community on the Newtownards Road continue to stand with the McCurrie and Neill family and this attack is felt by all those in the area. The paint will be removed and the damage restored, but it is the mindset of those who carried out this damage which is in most urgent need of change.”

£181.3 million handed back. Let that sink in.

While families dodge potholes, roads continue to deteriorate and many grass verges are only cut once a year, the Sinn Féin Infrastructure Minister has handed back £181.3 million that could have been invested in improving our roads and infrastructure.

Instead of focusing on the basics that every community depends on, the Minister's priorities continue to be driven by a narrow political agenda, with Irish language projects taking precedence while our infrastructure is neglected.

People don't want more symbolism they want potholes filled, roads repaired, grass cut and taxpayers' money spent on the services they actually rely on.

Northern Ireland deserves an Infrastructure Minister focused on infrastructure, not politics.

Alliance: Sinn Féin Lite?

The figures speak for themselves.

Analysis of Assembly division votes between May 2022 and May 2025, the Alliance Party voted with Sinn Féin 73% of the time (181 out of 249 divisions), compared with just 23% of the time (56 out of 249 divisions) with the DUP.

Even more telling, Alliance's voting similarity with Sinn Féin was higher than with the SDLP, making Sinn Féin the party they voted alongside most often in the Northern Ireland Assembly during this period.

Alliance is, of course, entitled to vote as it chooses. But voters are equally entitled to judge parties by their actions rather than their slogans.

If Alliance wants to present itself as a genuine alternative, then its voting record deserves scrutiny. The numbers are on the public record, and people can make up their own minds.

Conor Murphy has a brass neck to claim the DUP doesn't want Northern Ireland to work.

Let's look at Sinn Féin's own record on Belfast City Council.

They called in the decision to proceed with a new crematorium at Roselawn a project that would give grieving families modern, dignified facilities and more time to say goodbye to their loved ones.

They argued the site was unsuitable, despite Roselawn being home to Northern Ireland's only crematorium for over 60 years. So what suddenly changed? Was it really about the location, or was it because over £20 million was being invested on the outskirts of East Belfast?

More recently, Sinn Féin also called in the decision to include a state-of-the-art broadcast studio as part of the Belfast Stories project. Working with the BBC, it had the potential to attract broadcasters and production companies including ITV, Channel 4, RTÉ, Disney, Netflix and many others, creating jobs and opportunities in Belfast.
Was their opposition based on the fact that the first "B" in BBC stands for British?

That's a question many people will be asking. Whatever the reason, if this investment doesn't happen in Belfast, it is likely another city elsewhere in the UK will benefit instead. That means lost jobs, lost investment and lost opportunities for our economy.

Yet we're expected to believe the DUP is the party holding Northern Ireland back?

That's simply not true.

We want first-class public facilities, investment in every community, good jobs and opportunities that allow our economy to grow. Our record shows we back projects that benefit everyone not because of where they're located, but because they're the right thing to do.

Andy Burnham is now Prime Minister.

This is the same man who couldn't defeat Ed Miliband or Jeremy Corbyn to become Leader of the Labour Party while they were in opposition. Yet now, out of more than 400 Labour MPs, he's the person they've chosen to lead the country. That says a lot about the lack of leadership talent within today's Labour Party.

Britain doesn't need to move further to the left. We need policies that reward work, reduce welfare dependency, grow the economy and restore confidence.

That means cutting the benefits bill by helping more people into employment, backing British oil and gas production to strengthen our energy security, and enforcing our immigration laws, including the deportation of those with no legal right to remain in the UK.

If we want Britain to work again, we need to support those who work, encourage investment, and put the national interest first.

Alliance have made a number of posts accusing the DUP of "fake news" over the recent discretionary funding decision at Belfast City Council.

The only fake news here is coming from Alliance.

The discretionary funding we sought was for organisations working in some of the most socially deprived communities anywhere in Northern Ireland. These are not vanity projects. They are groups making a real difference every single week.

For example, one organisation works 52 weeks a year to keep young people away from a local interface and provide positive opportunities aswell as supportering men's health, wellbeing and mental health in East Belfast, another group will use the funding to improve its facilities, making them more accessible for women and people with disabilities.

What Alliance conveniently ignore is that when Sinn Féin brought forward requests for discretionary funding, Alliance not only failed to call those decisions in, they actively voted in favour of them. That is all on the public record.

So the question is simple: why was discretionary funding acceptable when it suited one community, but suddenly unacceptable when it was directed towards Unionist working-class communities?

One Alliance councillor even dismissed this funding as "getting a few footballs". That comment shows just how out of touch they are with the community organisations and volunteers who give up their time every week to support young people, improve mental health and strengthen local neighbourhoods.

The next time Alliance come knocking on the doors of Unionist working-class communities asking for your vote, remember where they stood when local groups needed support. Their actions in the council chamber speak far louder than their election leaflets

Transparency matters.

For anyone interested, this is my Belfast City Council allowance for the year.

£18,916 – the standard Basic Allowance paid to every Belfast City Councillor.

£3,733 – Special Responsibility Allowance received for serving as Vice-Chairman of a Council Committee.

Total received: £22,649.

I do not claim mileage or travel expenses. Representing the people of Lisnasharragh and attending meetings across the city is part of my job.

There are no hidden payments. This information is already in the public domain and is available online or can be obtained through a Freedom of Information request to Belfast City Council.

Transparency and accountability in public office are important, and I'm happy for people to see exactly what I receive.

Police are investigating an assault of a male on Friday 17th July 2026 at 01:30hrs at Rosetta Park, Belfast.
He had been sitting at the traffic lights, at Rosetta Park,when two males on an electric bike, have thrown a paving slab towards his vehicle, causing injury to him and damage to his vehicle.
