βοΈ CO DOWN MAN TO STAND TRIAL ON CHILD SEXUAL COMMUNICATION CHARGES
A Co Down man is to stand trial at Craigavon Crown Court accused of sexually communicating with a child.
Standing in the dock of Craigavon Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 25-year-old Harry Lappin confirmed he was aware of the two charges against him.
Lappin, from the Drumnabreeze Road in Magheralin, faces one count of sexual communication with a child on 18 September 2024 and one count of causing a child aged 13 to 16, to look at a person engaged in sexual activity.
A Prosecutor submitted that based on the papers before the court, there is a prima facie case against Lappin.
Defence counsel Conor Lunny confirmed he had no contrary submissions and the defendant declined to comment on the charges or call evidence on his own behalf.
Submitting an application for legal aid, Mr Lunny confirmed that βitβs not a decoy case.β
District Judge Michael Ranaghan said that having reviewed the papers and exhibits, he was satisfied there is a case to answer so he returned the case to Craigavon Crown Court.
Releasing Lappin on his own bail of Β£300 with a condition that he has no contact with the complainant or witnesses, Judge Ranaghan scheduled the arraignment for next month.
