Northern Ireland is an important home for many migratory birds which come here to breed in summer.

Swifts and House Martins moved from Amber to the UK Birds of Conservation Concern Red list due to severe declines in their breeding populations.

Loss of traditional nest sites is thought to be a contributory factor in their declines. Please leave in place any of their nests remaining from previous years.

To manage droppings from House Martin nests, flower pots can be placed on the ground beneath the nests, or a droppings board at least 2m below the nest cups can be fixed to the wall.

Remember, it is illegal to disturb or remove active nests.
