We provide local services to the 340,000 people in Belfast and part of the Borough of Castlereagh, while also providing specialist services to all of Northern Ireland. In our hospitals, we treat approximately 210,000 inpatient and day patients a year, see 680,000 outpatients and more than 200,000 people at our ED departments. In the community we are corporate parent to 600 children in care – the m

ajority in foster care. We are also responsible for between 500 and 550 children on the child protection register – and every year receive 800 referrals for children in need of support – mostly in their own home. We provide services for older people through nine residential homes and also commission services from the independent and voluntary sector to support older people who wish to remain in their own homes. 🤝Belfast Trust partners with Nexus NI in a pledge to work to end violence against women and girls.

👭 Staff have taken part in a workplace programme delivered by Nexus NI to help challenge misogyny and improve safety policies.

🚫 One in three women in Northern Ireland have experienced sexual harassment at work, and 30 women have been murdered in the region since 2020.

🔒 Through the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls Take a Pledge programme run by Nexus NI, the Trust reaffirmed its commitment to provide a safe, supportive and inclusive working environment for staff affected by or at risk of abuse.

🏥 We also pledged to provide a supportive and responsive service to anyone affected by abuse when accessing health and social care.

Trust Staff and members of the public will have the chance to see behind the scenes of our historic hospital sites this September. 🏥 The Trust Arts in Health Team has partnered with colleagues in Estates and other departments to organise our programme for the 2026 edition of European Heritage Open Days (EHOD), taking place on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September. 📅

We’re delighted that Belfast City Hospital and the Mater will feature in the programme for the first time alongside events at the Royal.

Our EHOD events are free to attend and are open to the public including Trust staff – but please note places are limited and advance booking is required. Check out below what to expect from each event and find out how to book your place.

⚡New Breastfeeding Support Group and activity sessions at Ballyhackamore Library.

👭This group, run by the Health Visiting Service, will take place on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, starting on 11 August 2026.

📖 Come along between 10-11.30am to meet other breastfeeding mums, get expert support and then stay for Rhythm and Rhyme and Story Time at the end of each group meeting. 🎶

🤱This is part of our World Breastfeeding Week celebrations - keep an eye out for other events.

👩‍🍼Breastival is a unique festival to celebrate, support and normalise Breastfeeding in Northern Ireland.

The Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann takes place next week, welcoming thousands of people to Belfast.

All Belfast Trust appointments and services will continue as normal, with patients advised to leave extra time for their journey to our sites.

🏥 The Proud parents of Alastair ‘Ally’ Forsythe unveiled a story board in his memory at the Regional Intensive Care Unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital yesterday.

💛 Joanne and David's son, Ally, saved 3 lives when he gave the gift of life through organ donation in 2025.

👩‍⚕️ Kerrie Bell, Bedside Nurse and Bereavement Lead in the Regional Intensive Care Unit, also marked the special unveiling – as did Ally’s beloved dog Teddy 🐾
