The World Cup is underway — and the BBQ is still in play.

But with chicken, the rules are clear: no pink, no exceptions.

Undercooked chicken can carry harmful bacteria like Campylobacter so it must be cooked all the way through.

Stick to the rules:
Steaming hot throughout
No pink meat
Juices run clear
Don’t wash raw chicken

Follow the rules and keep your match day a win.

Meet the Nutritional Standards Co-ordinators

The FSA works in partnership with the Public Health Agency, Safefood and Health and Social Care Trusts to promote Nutritional Standards in Health and Social Care Settings.

Nutritional Standards Co-ordinators are instrumental in this work. They champion the implementation of the standards and work in partnership with catering, dietetic and procurement colleagues, and the Catering Service Leads to provide healthy, affordable and sustainable food choices for staff and visitors.

Co-ordinators collaborate across Health and Social Care Trusts, complete regular audits and develop action plans. They encourage staff and visitors to explore healthier menu and snack options.

Chippy Tea anyone? It’s national fish and chip day!

Before you head off to the local chippy remember to check the food hygiene rating on the door before you order.

The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme (FHRS), run in partnership with district councils, gives food businesses a rating from 0 to 5 based on their hygiene standards – helping you make informed choices about where to eat.

Check the score on the door: ratings.food.gov.uk

Can you reheat takeaway rice?

Rice shouldn’t be reheated more than once, which makes takeaway rice a bit different.

Some takeaway businesses pre-cook their rice and reheat it before serving. This means reheating it again at home isn’t recommended.

For the best approach, eat takeaway rice shortly after it’s delivered or collected, rather than saving it to reheat later. This helps reduce the risk of food poisoning.

If you’re unsure how the rice has been prepared, you can always ask the takeaway.
