Lagan Search & Rescue are raising funds for a Bicycle Response Team. We have applied for funding from the Aviva Community Fund but we need your votes. Voting starts tomorrow morning. Each person can cast 10 votes. Please help us to fund this fantastic project and share it with all your friends.

Lagan Search & Rescue has been proudly serving the people of Belfast for five years. We believe that introducing a Bicycle Response Team will further enhance our response capability getting help where it is needed more quickly.

The NI Weather & Flood Advisory Service has issued the following weather warnings. Please note - we are not associated with any other weather organisations. Their guidance, advice, information or warning thresholds or levels are not in line or connected with our warnings and our warnings may differ from those issued by other organisations.

NB - This warning will be subject to changes.

A RED warning of High Winds has been issued for parts of Northern Ireland (See Map)
An AMBER warning of High Winds has been issued for parts of Northern Ireland (See Map)
A separate yellow warning will be issued for heavy rain.

Hurricane Ophelia has been upgraded to a category 3 hurricane, this was not expected to go beyond a category 1. Opheila is expected to move towards the UK & Ireland this weekend and make landfall as a ex-hurricane.

RED WARNING

Within these areas we are expecting mean wind speeds of up to 40mph to 60mph with gusts of 75mph to 90mph or higher in exposed areas.

AMBER Warning

Within these areas we are expecting mean wind speeds of 30mph to 50mph with gusts of of up to 70mph. Possible higher in exposed areas.

Sea conditions are expected to be PHENOMENAL, with Violent storm 11 to Hurricane force 12 sea conditions likely.

Wave heights in excess of 30 Feet are possible at sea. Large waves are expected to hit all coastal areas which may lead to coastal flooding due to waves over topping sea defenses along with damage to the coast line eg - Sea walls, coastal roads etc

There is a risk of a storm surge affecting coastal areas. We will provide more detail on this tomorrow when we update again.
The public are advised to expect :-
Major disruption to travel - especially to ferry services and air travel, along with disruption on roads.
We advised against all non essential travel
There is a high risk of downed trees & power lines and debris on road.
Possible widespread interruptions to power supplies.
Possible structural damage to property.
Coastal flooding and possible damage.
Threat to life from flying debris.

The public are advised to :-
Avoid all coastal areas such as beach & sea fronts, promenades and coastal roads due to risk to personal safety from large over topping waves.
be aware of difficult driving conditions, possible road closures, especially bridges.
Be prepared for interruptions to power supplies.

This warning is valid from 13:00 16/10/2017 Until further notice. However please note that this warning timing is subject to changes. We can expected severe weather during Monday & Tuesday.

The NI Weather & Flood Advisory Service has issued the following weather warnings

An Early Yellow warning of High Winds, Rain & Coastal events has been issued for Northern Ireland.

Hurricane Ophelia currently in the Atlantic is expected to move towards us over the coming days. It is currently a category 1 hurricane with sustained winds of 80mph

We are expecting this to impact us early next week as a ex-tropical storm. (it will not be a hurricane)

There is still considerable uncertainty regarding the track of the storm, however there is potential for this storm to be a extreme weather event for parts of the country.

Possible hazards from this storm include - hurricane force winds, excessive rainfall, exceptional sea conditions, storm surge/coastal flooding & damage.

Disruption possible - To travel & possible damage to infrastructure (ie power supplies/Communications etc). Along with risk of damage to buildings.

The public are advised to stay tuned to forecasts, updates and warnings over the coming days.

This warning is subject to changes and/or upgrades over the coming days. It is likely this warning will be upgraded closer to the arrival of the storm.
