Primary 4’s Trip to Carrickfergus Castle

We started off with a tour around the castle, hearing lots of stories and interesting facts. We then took a trip around the windy staircase and even saw the ‘trip’ step! We had to be very careful not to trip on our way down! We then went into the education centre and got to dress up as different medieval characters within a castle.

See our exciting photos from all over the castle!

Important Update

This morning, Botanic Primary School and Nursery Unit received an email containing a potential threat to the school (alongside other schools). We immediately contacted the PSNI and following their advice, evacuated the school as a precaution.

All pupils and staff are accounted for and our emergency procedures were followed. The situation is being managed in conjunction with the PSNI and the safety of our children and staff remains our absolute priority.

We understand that this news may be concerning and ask parents not to speculate or share unverified information while the matter is being assessed. We will provide further information when appropriate.

We are contacting parents through withheld phone numbers, please ensure you answer the call so we can provide further information.

Thank you,

Mr Clarke

Over 50 families joined us this morning for an engaging and informative Digital Safety session led by Dr Deborah Webster from Thrive Academy. Deborah shared some of the challenges and opportunities children face online, while sharing practical advice on how to support safe and responsible technology use at home.

We are delighted to be continuing our partnership with Deborah as our P5 and P6 pupils take part in a series of digital safety workshops. These sessions will help children develop the knowledge, confidence and skills they need to navigate the online world safely and responsibly.

A huge thank you to Dr Deborah Webster for sharing her expertise with our school community and to all the families who attended and engaged so positively in this important conversation.

Last week, Miss Mackay went on a very special trip to Poland with the British Council. She represented our school and met teachers from Ukraine and across the UK.

Our P6 pupils are going to work with children from Zaruddia Lyceum in Ukraine on an exciting 'Reading and Writing' project. We have already enjoyed reading letters from our Ukrainian friends and were thrilled to receive sweets and flags from them.

We can't wait to learn more about each other and see what amazing work comes from this special friendship and partnership!

At Botanic Primary School, we are proud to be Global Citizens!
