Exploring the story of Craigavon, the ambitious new city project developed around a vision of modern, high-tech communal living, Craigavon, New City combines material preserved by the Digital Film Archive with contemporary interviews to reflect on the hopes, complexities and legacy of the project sixty years on.

The award recognises the film’s innovative use of archive footage, with the FOCAL International Awards celebrating excellence in archival storytelling across the creative and cultural industries.

🎬 As Docs Ireland 2026 gets underway, this week’s Archive at 25 pick comes from the festival’s Head Programmer, Stuart Sloan.

A long-time collaborator with the Digital Film Archive, Stuart has worked on countless creative projects using archive footage over the past two decades. His selection, Equinox (2025), created with musician Róis, weaves together archive, nature and music in a poetic exploration of time and the changing seasons.

Stuart describes the archive as “our human history like nothing else”, highlighting its power to connect the past with the present and inspire new ways of storytelling.
