Today’s Archive at 25 selection is The Bannfoot Ferry (2025) by Belfast filmmaker Colm Laverty.
Colm has collaborated with the Digital Film Archive on projects for over a decade, with recent works The Bannfoot Ferry and Craigavon, New City both shortlisted for this year’s FOCAL Awards.

The film explores the rediscovery of Boatman, Do Not Tarry — UTV’s first drama, filmed in 1967 on the southern shores of Lough Neagh — reflecting on memory, place and community connection through archive footage.

Across Northern Ireland - from Belfast and Derry~Londonderry to smaller towns and rural locations – behind the scenes workers play a vital role, but their experiences of working life often differ from those in London and the South.

That’s why we're inviting people working behind the scenes in Northern Ireland, and across the UK, to take part in its 2026 Looking Glass mental health survey.

Your insight shows what’s really happening - from hybrid working to life in smaller, regional teams - and helps shape support and policy based on real experience, not assumptions.

It takes 10 minutes, is completely anonymous, and is the UK screen sector’s only long term mental health study.

Insight - especially from underrepresented voices in Northern Ireland - drives change.
