Carnegie Oldpark

Carnegie Oldpark Carnegie Oldpark Library, Belfast, Northern Ireland - now being restored and licenced for community use. Tell us what you would like to see in it!

Carnegie Oldpark is one of the over 2,500 libraries, that Andrew Carnegie gifted, over a century ago, across the English-speaking world. Abandoned by the public sector nearly a decade ago, Carnegie Oldpark stands as a beacon of hope for the new Belfast. We want to bring this superb example of Tudorbethan architecture back to life, for community use. We want the local people back to this building

and fill it with enterprise, education and training, poetry and song - it will buzz with the voices of the local community.

Bumper May 2026 Newsletter Distributed

A bumper, eight page edition of LOCA's latest community newsletter has been distributed to Lower Oldpark residents.

'LOCAl Update', previously known as 'Housing News Lower Oldpark', is packed with information across 23 articles and was distributed to every home in Lower Oldpark during the last week in May 2026.

The new name reflects the broader range of subjects the newsletter focuses on. It still provides an update on housing and local environment issues, but now also lets everyone know about the great activities being provided by LOCA for the people of Lower Oldpark. By promoting these, LOCA hopes to encourage more people to get involved.

'LOCAl Update' is also available on the LOCA Housing website - https://loweroldparkhousing.co.uk/

Here ends our wee series of and over recent days!

We visited Cahuenga, Santa Barbara, Lincoln Heights, South Pasadena, Denver Main, Decker, and Idaho Springs - a spectacular range of styles, locations, histories and stories of staff and users alike.

Thank-you to all involved, to the library authorities, employees and borrowers, to Mark McDonald (ace Carnegie cataloguer!) and of course to the legacy of extraordinary philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.

Congratulations to Denver City Council for far-sighted investments, beautiful architecture and coherent positive planning.

We’re moving from to today!

The amazing main Denver free public library was a lengthy project - so much that Carnegie missed the grand opening because they were still debating the fittings and shelving…

Now a civic building (events, weddings etc.) being reimagined as a museum for the city.
