Local Plan Consultation

Stroud District Council is running a consultation on a new Local Plan. This is the very early stages of the plan and your chance to make a difference.

The consultation closes on 9th August.

This week Berkeley Town Council attended a workshop run by Stroud District Council to provide an opportunity to discuss the key themes raised in the consultation, to share local views and priorities and to explore issues in more detail with officers.

This is the very early stages of the plan and so far not many responses have been received.

The survey is a tick box exercise and Q10 is where they are asking where we would prefer 12,000 houses to be developed.

In the workshop we were asked: Would we prefer two areas of 6000 houses or an even spread around the District. Sharpness and Wisloe were both mentioned. If these areas are allocated in the local plan it will give developers a much better chance of getting their applications through in the future.

The map (call for sites) online shows sites in pink that have been submitted by landowners or developers.

Main constraints in the District are:
• Floodrisk
• Landscape sensitivity (environmental impact, biodiversity)
• Limited road and infrastructure capacity (schools, transport, healthcare)

We have all of these problems and more, Berkeley Town Council is working with a group of stakeholders to try to prevent the flooding issues we saw last year, and we have a great group of local flood wardens.

📢 Have Your Say on the Future of Stroud District

We are running an early consultation on a new Local Plan, and we want to hear from residents, businesses and community organisations across the district.

The new Local Plan will guide how and where development takes place over the next 15 to 20 years, helping to balance the need for new homes, jobs and infrastructure while protecting the environment and the character of our communities.

This first-stage consultation runs until 11pm on Sunday 9 August 2026.

At this stage, we're asking for your views on the key challenges, opportunities and priorities facing the district. No decisions have been made about future development locations, and this is not a consultation on specific sites.

Your feedback will help shape the next steps as evidence is gathered and options are developed over the coming months.

Following on from our previous post about MenB vaccine bookings opening, there is some additional information that may be helpful for eligible young people and their families.

The NHS has now published clearer guidance to help people understand who is eligible and what to expect.

Eligible young people can book online or use a participating pharmacy walk-in service. First-time university or residential further education students may be asked to show evidence of their place, so it is worth having confirmation ready.

Two doses are needed for the best protection, at least 28 days apart, so booking early matters, particularly for anyone preparing to start university or residential college this autumn.

Berkeley Town Council and Berkeley Town Football Club have noticed that children are climbing the MUGA at Canon Park to retrieve footballs.

For everyone’s safety you must use the designated gates as climbing the fence can cause injuries and damage the facility.

Thank you for helping us keep the space safe for all.

Any lost footballs can be returned the following day by calling the caretaker on 07712 341577
