As part of our 50th birthday celebrations at Heatherslaw Mill, we’d like to invite one and all to come and have a look around this Summer! 👀
Since November 1975 the mill has been open as a heritage visitor attraction, focused on keeping the craft of milling and the availability of quality, local stoneground flours alive. 🌾
From June until August we are throwing our doors open and getting rid of our entry fee! In its place, we kindly ask for donations of any size to support our Mill and hopefully keep its mill wheel grinding for another 50 years. ☀️
We’re proud that our mill has retained its traditional purpose and, after over 700 years of milling history on this site, it is now the last working watermill in Northumberland and one of the few remaining in the UK.
🙏 We look forward to continuously making more improvements as our ancestors did, whilst still keeping the traditional craft of milling true to its original processes and techniques.

Whether you like to see and learn about grains and our changing diets, or how necessity proved the mother of invention, how buildings such as watermills ran sustainably and in harmony with their local landscape for hundreds of years… or just fancy getting some of the best stoneground flour you can find, Heatherslaw Mill has something for everyone. 👍
We hope visitors new and returning will enjoy coming to “mill around” with us this Summer.

Thanks to a wonderful donation and sponsorship offer from Ford and Etal Estates, members of the Ford & Etal Cyclists group are pleased to show off their new jerseys! 🚴

Based on the scarlet and gold of the Northumbrian Flag, there’ll be no missing us as we explore the local roads and places of interest. 🔴🟡

Since our first group ride in April 2019, our little gang has slowly grown into the Ford and Etal Cyclists group with over 30 members. We are a British Cycling Let’s Ride Community Group and ride most Thursday evenings
through the summer, with occasional longer rides on weekends. ☀️

We’re a small, friendly group based in Etal, where we start all our rides. We host local rides exploring the Ford & Etal estates, the Cheviot foothills, and the surrounding moorlands. We always ride as fast as the slowest rider and never leave anyone behind. 🚲

It’s free to join the group and free to participate in the rides; cyclists of all abilities are always welcome to join us.

The guided rides are planned, risk-assessed, and led by Graham, a British Cycling Level 2 Ride Leader with nearly 10 years of experience leading and assisting on guided rides. 🦺

Some of you may have spotted this special tractor on last weekend’s Berwick YFC tractor run. As you may know this tractor is iconic, not only in our area, for representing the memory of Doddie Weir and which is his MND research campaign. The foundation is unrelenting in its efforts to see a world without MND. Thank you for lending this beast for our community to enjoy, and for all the fantastic work you are doing!
