The planning permission for the re-build of Berwick Academy is now live for you to view the complete plans and make comments 🏫

✅ The new school will accommodate approximately 1,090 students (1,050 mainstream plus 40 SEMH places) and 112 staff.
✅ A new three-storey main school building with integrated sports facilities.
✅ A separate single-storey SEMH building.
✅ New sports pitches, MUGA, all-weather pitch, and athletics facilities.
✅ A new signal-controlled access junction from the A1167 Sunnyside Cut.
✅ Proposed building area of 8,784 m², with 675 m² is dedicated to the SEMH provision.

The site masterplan is designed to allow the existing school to remain operational during construction, with demolition of the current buildings taking place after occupation of the new school 👷🏼

I have been working on this project for nearly 10 years now since Belford Middle School was forced to close, great to see another hurdle crossed towards the High School Berwick deserves 👌

Another Reform UK councillor has quit the party, calling his decision to join “the biggest mistake of my life” ❌

Medway councillor Robbie Lammas has left Reform UK just eight months after defecting from the Conservatives, saying: “I’ve had enough, it’s not what I signed up to, and I feel I’ve been misled.” 😳

He also said Reform was “good at spin, but struggle with good governance” and admitted: “Yeah, I am embarrassed about it. It was a huge mistake.” 📉

Perhaps most tellingly, Lammas claimed: “Lots of others from Reform have told me they too feel it was a mistake to defect but they’re not in a position to publicly admit it.” 👀

His comments are a reminder that governing communities requires more than slogans and headlines. It takes experience, competence and a genuine commitment to delivering for local residents. 🏛️

Here in Northumberland, Conservative councillors remain focused on the issues that matter most to local people: protecting services, supporting communities and providing responsible leadership ✅

NASA has today received an invitation to county hall to meet County Council leader Glen Sanderson, highways, and other key stakeholders in the safety of the A1. North Northumberland MP David Smith & North East Mayor Kim McGuinness have also been brought into the discussion. NASA has begun documenting every single accident in the last 10 years within the section largely being discussed, and has requested that the feasibility studies and spending details carried out so far be made available to avoid any unnecessary duplication and prompt solutions. This is solid & fast progress. It is the intention of NASA to present a case before Westminster with clear facts, solutions & support.

Good evening speaking to the Berwick Civic Society about the regeneration of Berwick and the surrounding area 🪏

Lots to talk about all the good work of groups in Berwick working with the County Council putting Berwick on the map 🗺️

Berwick has a population of 13,000 but the countryside north and south of the border who use the town gets upto 45,000 residents plus all the tourists 👫

The Barracks, the Maltings, Berwick Academy, the Port, Advance Northumberland and all the private businesses big and small in Berwick and North Northumberland make it the fantastic place it is to live and work alongside the solid commitment of Northumberland County Council 💪

That’s how Labour celebrated fast-tracking Churchill Community College for a rebuild. Meanwhile, Northumberland’s requests for a meeting about Berwick Academy funding have been refused 🤔

If Labour can find flexibility for North Tyneside before the next School Rebuilding Programme selections in 2027, why won’t they even sit down and discuss options for Berwick? 🚸

Berwick’s children deserve the same commitment and the same urgency 🏫
