On 14 January, the Bexley Community Safety Partnership delivered a Knife Crime Awareness Conference, funded by London’s Violence Reduction Unit (VRU).

👥 50 students from 9 schools across heard from a powerful Lived Experience speaker and took part in interactive workshops led by Growing Against Violence (GAV), TSG Police Unit, Street Doctors, and Penificent.

Students said they “enjoyed the lived experience talk and were fascinated by the riot equipment the police brought,” while schools were “proud of their students’ conduct and curiosity.” 🌟

A huge thank you to all partners involved for supporting this vital work and helping us keep our young people and communities safe. 💚

📣 It’s knife crime awareness week, and your local Bexley Police teams are out and about as part of ongoing work to tackle knife crime and keep our community safe.

Bexley Police are focusing on a few key areas this week to make a real difference:
🏪 Supporting our shops - visiting local retailers to provide guidance on responsible sales and conducting test purchasing to ensure knives don't end up in the wrong hands.
🛣️ Cleaning up our spaces - conducting weapon sweeps in local parks and open spaces to remove dangerous items from the streets.
🤝 Working with partners - working closely with schools and local authorities to ensure young people have the support and information they need to stay safe.

Safety is a shared effort. We aren't just looking for knives, we’re looking to protect the people who live and work here.

How you can help:
📞Speak up anonymously - If you have information about knife crime but don't want to talk to the police, you can contact Crimestoppers 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111 or visit https://www.crimestoppers-uk.org/ for more information.

🚮📣 Use an amnesty bin - If you have a knife that needs to be disposed of, use a safe and anonymous amnesty bin. Find your nearest one here: https://www.word4weapons.co.uk/knife-bin-locations/
