You’re Invited to Bicester’s Civic Service & Parade

On Sunday 6th September, the people of Bicester will come together for our annual Civic Service and Parade — a much-loved tradition celebrating the strong and unique bond between our town, our churches and Bicester Garrison.

This special occasion is a chance to celebrate the values that bring our community together: service, friendship and community spirit. It is also an opportunity to thank those who serve our country and our town, while recognising the partnerships that make Bicester such a welcoming and vibrant place to live.

🏳️‍🌈 Bicester Pride Flag Raising – This Friday at 1pm 🏳️‍🌈

Bicester Town Council is proud to be supporting Bicester Pride CIC - Community as they kick off this year’s Pride celebrations with the raising of the Bicester Pride flag this Friday at Garth Park at 1pm.

We’d love to see everyone there to join us for this special moment as we raise the flag and celebrate love, equality, inclusion and diversity in our community. 🌈❤️

The flag raising marks the start of Bicester Pride weekend — setting the scene for the main celebrations taking place on Saturday, when Bicester Pride will bring the community together for a fantastic day of music performances, entertainment and celebration. 🎶🏳️‍🌈

While Bicester Pride is the organiser of the Pride events, Bicester Town Council is delighted to support both the flag raising and the music event as part of our commitment to celebrating and supporting our diverse community.

So come along on Friday, help us raise the flag and officially get Pride weekend underway — then join Bicester Pride again on Saturday for what promises to be a fantastic celebration! 🎉

Everyone is welcome. We hope to see you there! 🌈

📬 Would you sign up for a Bicester Town Council email newsletter?

We already have the amazing Garth Gazette, our tri-annual community magazine, which is a great way to keep up with what’s happening across Bicester.

But we’re wondering… would a regular email newsletter be useful too? 👀

An email could give you more regular updates about:

🎉 Upcoming events and activities
📰 News and updates from the town
👏 Celebrating the people, groups and organisations doing great things in Bicester
🌳 Community projects and local initiatives
📍 Useful information for residents
💛 Positive stories and things that make Bicester a great place to live

The Garth Gazette would continue to provide those great in-depth community stories, while an email newsletter could be a quick and easy way to stay up to date between editions.

Would you sign up? 📧

Let us know in the comments — YES or NO or — and tell us what you’d like to see in it! Or simply like the post!

We’d love to hear what Bicester thinks. 💚

📢 Home Office response on the proposed MOD Bicester site

Bicester Town Council has now received a response from the Home Office regarding the proposed use of the former MOD Bicester site for asylum accommodation.

The full response is available on the Bicester Town Council website for everyone to read:

www.bicester.gov.uk/mod-bicester-site-a

Some of the key points made by the Home Office are:

🔹 No final decision has been made on whether the site will be used for asylum accommodation. The Home Office says detailed feasibility assessments are still ongoing and could take several months.

🔹 The Home Office has submitted an Urgent Crown Development planning application in relation to the proposed use of the site. It says this allows planning issues to be considered but does not predetermine the final outcome.

🔹 If the site does go ahead, the Home Office says it would provide basic, safe accommodation and be designed to be largely self-sufficient to minimise the impact on the local community.

🔹 An experienced specialist provider would be appointed to manage the site and provide support to those accommodated there.

🔹 The Home Office says security would be provided 24/7, with specialist security staff permanently on site, alongside CCTV monitoring and recording.

🔹 It says it will work with Bicester Town Council, other local authorities, the NHS, police and other partners through multi-agency forums if the plans progress.

🔹 The Home Office also states that local authorities will be eligible for asylum grant funding, while police forces affected by large sites can apply for additional grant support where there is an impact on normal policing demand.

There is clearly still a lot to be considered, and the planning and wider assessment process is ongoing.

📖 The full letter from the Minister for Border Security & Asylum, dated 24th August 2026, is available to read on the Bicester Town Council website.

Please take the time to read the full response.
