We're pleased to announce the winning name for our library bear is Banjo.

The 6 year old winner was selected as it fit in perfectly with this year's Summer Reading Challenge theme Read to the Beat.

Thank you to everyone who took part. Banjo is now enjoying his role as our new library mascot and can be found reading in our children's library.

Our short story competition launches today! We are looking forward to uncovering fresh talent, imaginative stories and unique voices from across the county. The competition provides a fantastic opportunity for locals to turn the page on their writing journey, get their work discovered, and share their stories with library customers across Oxfordshire.

Open to everyone aged 7 and above, the competition features three categories: Children, Young Adult and Adult. If you know any budding authors who have a story waiting to be written, please encourage them to enter!

This year marks 150 years since the birth of Oxfordshire author Flora Thompson, best known for her much-loved trilogy Lark Rise to Candleford. Look out for activities over the coming months as we celebrate the enduring legacy of Flora Thompson and the rural communities that inspired her writing.

As part of a countywide programme linking the library service with Oxfordshire County Council's History Centre and Museum Services, Bicester Library is currently hosting a display exploring the history of rural Oxfordshire. Visitors can also join Martin Greenwood, author of 'In Flora's Footsteps: Daily Life in Lark Rise Country 1876-2009', for a talk on Monday 22 September at 6pm.
