COMMUNITY SAFETY UPDATE – KNYPERSLEY AND BIDDULPH
Following a recently reported serious sexual offence in the Knypersley area, Staffordshire Police is aware of concerns within our community.
The investigation is ongoing, and police officers will continue to carry out reassurance patrols. We understand that an incident of this nature can cause worry and anxiety for residents.
Although offences of this nature are rare, Staffordshire Police is encouraging everyone to take sensible steps to help keep themselves safe, particularly as the evenings get darker.
💛 Simple steps to help you stay safe
🔦 Carry a torch when walking in poorly lit areas. It can help you see hazards and make you more visible to others.
🚶 Plan your journey. Where possible, stick to well-lit, busier routes and let someone you trust know where you're going and when you expect to arrive.
👀 Stay aware of your surroundings. Try to avoid distractions from your phone or headphones and trust your instincts. If something doesn't feel right, head towards somewhere safe where other people are present.
📱 Consider a personal safety app. These can offer extra reassurance when you're out and about. Options include:
• Hollie Guard: https://hollieguard.com/ – allows you to share your location with trusted contacts and activate alerts if you need help.
• WalkSafe: https://walksafe.io/ – offers safety information and the option to share your journey with trusted contacts.
• what3words: https://what3words.com/ – helps you identify and share a precise location using three words, which can be useful when contacting emergency services.
🔔 Consider carrying a personal safety alarm. These emit a loud sound when activated, which may attract attention and help you feel more confident when travelling alone.
Please remember that apps and alarms are additional safety tools, not a replacement for contacting the emergency services.
Reporting concerns
• Call 999 if a crime is in progress or someone is in immediate danger.
• Call 101or visit the Staffordshire Police website to report a non-emergency concern.
• Contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you have information about a crime.
