THREE WAYS NEIGHBOURHOOD PLAN RESULT WILL AFFECT US (IT’S ALL GOOD!) 😃

On Thursday Northam voters overwhelmingly backed the Northam Neighbourhood Plan. The vast majority (93%) of those taking part voted YES to the Plan- only 7% opposed it. Torridge (later Devon Council) will now use the Plan to guide planning decisions in Northam Parish.

1 MORE SAY FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS AND COUNCILLORS
Every year the Plan will be reviewed not by planners but by Northam Council in consultation with residents. The Plan gives us new rights to propose sports and heritage sites to protect from harmful development. When Devon Council make their own Local Plan they must have regard for the Northam Plan.

2 LESS TIME WASTED IN PLANNING BATTLES
Clearer planning policies relevant. to our area (not Torridge as a whole) give developers clearer guidance on what they can build on a site. And with key areas and sites protected from harmful development there ought to be fewer proposals that upset residents and trigger planning battles.

3 AN ON-GOING QUEST TO IMPROVE OUR AREA
When the time comes to make a new Neighbourhood Plan the expertise and public engagement generated by the Plan will enable the Town Council to make a new and even better Plan that meets the aspirations and needs of local people.

THE RESULT WAS FAR BETTER THAN CAMPAIGNERS EXPECTED.
