For 9 months now, our councillors Teresa Tinsley and Chris Wheatley have been part of a group testing the water in Kenwith Stream and feeding the results into the West Country Rivers Trust. Now we are working with the Biosphere to join up with other groups and create more across the whole Taw and Torridge area. We need more volunteers! Join us at this important event to find out how you can help.

Local Government reorganisation plans were released today. This is going to make things even more difficult to deliver services with a greater area to cover and fewer people to provide council tax.
It’s not all bad news though. Labour run Exeter and Plymouth are going to come out of this very well indeed…..

This is party politics at its worst.

The people of Devon have been completely ignored in the governments decision to carve the county up into 4 unequal parts.

Exeter and Plymouth are currently run by Labour administrations, and surprise surprise, they've been handed a model which concentrates the economically profitable areas into new "Greater Exeter" and "Greater Plymouth".

The "Rest of Devon" as they called us in their proposal, will have the most spread out population - making services extremely expensive to deliver. We've been left with 5000km+ of roads to look after, with a very small council tax base to pull from. They've taken the majority of the hospitals, both universities, all of the major bus and rail interchanges - basically anything profitable and high-tech has gone to Labour-run councils. We're left looking after Devon's rural children and elderly populations, we've got to look after the farmers, the rivers, the national parks, and our beautiful coastlines. All on a shoestring budget.

The rest of us have been set up to fail. These Labour councillors and ministers should be ashamed.

Lib Dem’s call on Sir Geoffrey Cox to rule out putting Farage into Number 10

Phil Hutty, Liberal Democrat candidate for Torridge and Tavistock, warned today that Kemi Badenoch’s Conservatives are actively preparing to put Reform UK into power.

Mr Hutty has challenged local Conservative MP Sir Geoffrey Cox to rule out handing Nigel Farage the keys to Number 10 after the Conservative leader admitted they would support him if he fell short of a majority. Mr Hutty said:

‘Voters here in Torridge and Tavistock will be absolutely appalled at the highly dangerous prospect of giving Nigel Farage the keys to Number 10, which would only bring about more division in our politics and on our doorsteps.

‘Now Kemi Badenoch has openly admitted that voting Conservative risks exactly that very terrifying outcome.

‘For us here, the choice is clear - vote Conservative, get Farage. Or back me, your hard-working Lib Dem champion who will stand up for all across Torridge and Tavistock and fight for local issues.’
