πŸ“Ÿ CALLOUT - 09/12/2025 - Car in the water, Burgh Island

Last night while the team were having their joint Christmas event with Yealm Coastguard Rescue Team we were paged by Falmouth Coastguard to an immediate tasking. We responded to reports of a car having been washed away on the causeway between the island and mainland with an individual subsequently trapped on rocks.

Salcombe RNLI, Kingsbridge Coastguard Rescue Team, Yealm Coastguard Rescue Team and South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust were also tasked.

Upon arrival Yealm and Bigbury teams worked swiftly to locate the causality who was cold, wet and unable to walk - The teams provided immediate casualty care. With two teams already on scene Kingsbridge could return to their festivities!

Members of the Bigbury team, in dry suits, made a quick assessment inside the vehicle to ensure there were no more casualties.

After re-warming and further assessment by the ambulance service the casualty made a good recovery and made their own way to hospital with family.

Footage from this incident demonstrates the incredible strength of the sea, please take great care in this storm season.

Please refrain from making insensitive and negative comments without knowing the full details.
