Today marks 25 years since the 9/11 attacks that took place at the World Trade Centre in New York. 2977 people lost their lives as a result of these attacks, 343 of which were Fire Fighters. Many more have succumbed to illnesses as a result of the rescue and recovery work they carried out at the site after the attacks. At 1346 GMT (0846 EDT) we stood for a one minute silence to remember the terrible events that took place and the courage displayed by those who responded to help.

Thank you to the staff and students from Wiston, Abington & Crawford primary schools for hosting us today. We attended to deliver water and camping safety information and were met with some great existing knowledge from the students, well done!

Congratulations to Firefighter Irvine Mitchell and Firefighter Liam Murphy for passing their green phase assessment! Since joining the Fire Service both of them have undergone an intense 3 year development programme, with assessments at year 1 (red), year 2 (amber) and finally year 3 (green). They have worked hard to achieve this standard and the crew are proud to welcome them back from their final assessment as competent Firefighters.

Massive thank you to the organisers of the Crawford Fun Day for inviting us to attend! We had a great time showing people around the appliance, telling them about the role of a firefighter, and getting an opportunity to deliver water and wildfire safety information.

On Sunday we attended Lanark fire station for our team to practice the skills they’ll be demonstrating during annual assessments. We completed various pump operation and ladder drills, BA search & rescue exercises and some BA Entry Control Board exercises. The crew worked hard and have shown great commitment to providing a skilled emergency service to our community.

Thanks to the staff and pupils of Libberton and Wiston Primary Schools for inviting us to their World of Work event. We had a great time teaching you about the role of a firefighter and hearing all the brilliant career ideas you had!

On our travels again last night, we attended the National Training Centre in Cambuslang for BA training. The crew did a great job to keep themselves orientated and rescue casualty simulators whilst wearing blindfold masks to imitate the low visibility faced in fire conditions.

Training on Thursday, we attended Lanark fire station and used the drill tower there for a change of scenery, the crew were practicing a Confined Pitch of the 13.5m ladder, this is used for gaining access to high areas where there is limited space to work.

If your days are free, even a few hours of availability could help strengthen our daytime cover. You don’t need to be available 24/7 — just reliably within those daytime windows.

🏡 Live or work within 8 minutes of the station?
