Essex Wildlife Trust site managed in partnership with Essex & Suffolk Water this 100 acre mixed woodland reserve adjoins the 870 acre Hanningfield Reservoir, a SSSI for its nationally important populations of wildfowl. The visitor centre is set in mature woodland and offers superb views over the 870 acre Hanningfield Reservoir. It is an ideal place to view the wildlife within the nature reserve an

d to receive the latest sightings news. The centre has full disabled access as does the Lyster Bird hide that is a short distance away. There are lots of gifts in the centre shop and a full range of binoculars and telescopes, as well as books and refreshments. So while you're enjoying a nice warming drink you can take time to enjoy the stunning view over the water and browse the display. Booking is essential for most centre events, so make sure you call or visit the centre in advance to avoid disappointment.

The Club meets locally once a week, and offers a friendly space to try something new or develop your skills.

August's species of the month is the painted lady! 🧡🦋

A well-travelled migrant, the painted lady arrives here every summer from Europe and Africa. This beautiful orange-and-black butterfly regularly visits gardens.

Have you seen the Chicken of the Woods? 🐔
You may have spotted this strange looking fungi outside our Nature Discovery Centre.
Chicken of the woods is a sulphur-yellow bracket fungus of trees in woods, parks and gardens. It can often be found in tiered clusters on oak, but also likes beech, chestnut, cherry and even yew.

Can you find Mr Toad? 🐸

Grab a trail map from the Visitor Centre and find the Wind in the Willows characters around the reserve.

You can borrow a crayon and at each character you find there is a rubbing to take and add to your map.

A perfect activity to enjoy during the school holidays and enjoy the outdoors 🌳🌞
