Drill Night Update

So, this is how quickly things can change on a Drill Night. Simultaneous activity from the crew!

Half of the crew were Testing the Cobra System after a system fault at an incident, while also completing Development Firefighter Observations for two of our Crew. Meanwhile, two of our JOs were undertaking office administration duties and talking with a potential new recruit and starting with his Chester Step Test.

All this changed quickly when our Crew were then alerted to a Building Fire along with our colleagues from Donington and Spalding.

Luckily, we managed to get back to our checks and testing after this Building Fire shout and were back available.

Wowsers What a Month!

41 times we have been alerted during July

This is definitely one of our busiest months as an On Call Station.

These alerts included; Vehicle Fire Large, Make Up (more pumps required at Incidents), Fire in the Open Small & Large, Various Standbys at Several different stations across the county.

It's the reason why our Crew here at Billingborough continues to respond.

We recently received a nice thank you card from a resident in the village for stopping a Large Vehicle Fire spreading towards their property. Being so close and in the village, our Crew managed to arrive within minutes and contained the fire.

The resident was so grateful and dropped us off a nice thank you card and some lovely sweet treats which have been amazing in keeping our Crew going on the many jobs we've attended this month.

However, what we would also like to do is thank the local businesses that have really helped us out this month.

Fortescue Arms - Billingborough - One of our Crew works at the pub, and needs to be released on a regular basis so we always gratefully for this. But also, on a number of occasions has provided food for our Crew during local extended shouts and some food after long days, both of which, are crews have been incredibly thankful for.

The Ship Inn for also providing Food and Shelter for our Firefighters during the extended Pointon Job

HC Building for being flexible and allowing one of our Crew Managers to respond

And there are always many more which have and will continue to assist our Crew, everyone that we are thankful for.

This week's update!

🔥🔥 Drill Night - Our crew didn't have our normal Drill Night as planned on Monday. Earlier in the day, our Crew were sent on a Standby to Sunny Skegness while the east of our county were dealing with other incidents. Once we were back and getting ready for Drill Night we were alerted to a Relief Job at Market Rasen for a Farm Fire. This meant we had to improvise our Drill Night and our Crew undertook the Water Rescue theory training on the move from CM Foster.

Relatively calm rest of the week was then had by the crew.

However, if you want to know what our Crew sometimes undertake outside their normal Training and Day Jobs, well this weekend, CM Foster is undertaking the British Firefighter Challenge which is being hosted by The Fire Service College. He's undertaken the challenge and managed to get 3.23 which is around 10 seconds quicker than his previous year.

July Update (so far...)

As of the 17th, our Crews have had a busy old month!

Our first busy day was 4th - 3 Separate Incidents
5th - 1 Incident during the Day
Second busy day 6th - 5 Separate Call outs (including Stand By Duties)
8th - 1 Incident during the Day again
9th - 3 Incidents during the Day, Evening and Late Evening
10th - 3 Incidents during Early Morning (x2) and a Make Pump 6 Incident during the day
15th - 1 Incident during the Day close to Station

That's 17 Incidents so far this month, and we could have had a few more with additional crewing!

Big Thanks for our Amazing Crew during these hot conditions!

Today's Fire Call

Reports of a Large Vehicle Fire in a Lorry Storage Yard in Billingborough Village so a quick turn out for our Crew.

We were mobilised just after 11.00am along side Bourne Fire Station & Sleaford Fire Station.

🚒🔥DRILL NIGHT UPDATE 🔥🚒

On Monday, our Crew needed to test and refresh our skills on Throw Bagging! Throw Bags are used by our Crew to help stricken individuals that are unable to save themselves in water. These throw bags allow our Crew to throw a lifeline to those people to help pull them back towards the Bankside.

Ordinarily, we would need to test these skills in bodies of water or close to them, but with the Heatwave, we wanted to risk assess the safety of our crews in Water Rescue Suits in this heat. For this reason, we improvised, and did the Throw Bagging away from water and in Rescue Tunics

This skill is vital for our Crew to help protect the public, especially with the risks of Cold Water Shock and floating to stay alive.

It's that time of year! The time of year we attend School Fayres and other Community Events to assist with Recruitment but also to deliver important Safety Messages regarding Water Awareness and The Fatal 5.

This week, our Crew have been busy getting the message out there. Alongside the Beavers Visit we shared, we also attended Pointon Primary School Summer Fair!

Our Crew we there to happily hand out Road Safety leaflets and showcase our Rescue Kit from our Regular Fire PPE to our Flood and Water Response Kit. All of this while assisting our Local Community and providing some support with Recruitment questions!
