Bi-lingual volunteers wanted! 🔊

We're looking for friendly and enthusiastic volunteers to help review translated library information. We've translated the documents covering our library joining procedures and how to use our computer & printing facilities, and are looking for bi-lingual speakers to check them for accuracy and clarity.

We're looking for speakers of any of the following languages:
❄️ Romanian
🌵 Lithuanian
🍒 Punjabi (Gurmukhi)
🍨 Arabic
🌻Latvian
🪐Russian
🐠Urdu

By volunteering for this role, you'll help make our library services more accessible and welcoming for people who speak different languages in our communities, and help ensure that important info is easy to understand and culturally appropriate.

This role can be carried out from home or wherever is best for you.

weekend recap! ⏪

Our team had a blast this weekend, with events up and down the county celebrating wonderful words! Here's what you might've missed:

🕊️ Friday night saw the Paper Crane Poets showcase, with performances from members of Beeston Library's resident poetry group
🐞 The Great Big Bug Show landed at West Bridgford and Beeston libraries, for not one but TWO sold-out shows!
💫 The Wonder Of... Families in Worksop Library enjoyed a whole host of poetic activities including blackout poetry, and a foodie-inspired writing activity!
✍️ Neurodivergent poets of Beeston took part in writing prompts and exercises under the guidance of neurodivergent writer Pippa Hennessey
🎤 Bad Ideas Club workshop participants joined established voices Leanne Moden and Marjie Griffiths on stage to showcase their work at Mansfield Central Library
📖 Not Scary Poetry Society delved into the poetry and music of John Clare, in a special session at Southwell Library
🧠 Bad Betty Press founding editor Amy Acre passed on her valuable advice on publishing your first poetry pamphlet at West Bridgford Library
🐭 Little ones in Mansfield enjoyed a day of Gruffalo-themed crafts plus two film screenings, and a reading of Gruffalo Granny at the Great Gruffalo Double Bill!

What a weekend it's been! Still got energy for more? Join the Five Leaves Publications gang tonight at West Bridgford Library for a showcase of most of the poets who have published their pamphlets with them in the first three years. You'll hear from their latest poet Diana Boworth, and have the chance to grab a copy of their works yourself. Tickets still available! https://bit.ly/3TcHvND

Gallery Bookings for 2027 (Jan, Feb, March & April) will open this week, from the 1st October.

Please email us your interest with photos of your work and we can send you an application form to be considered. We aim to bring new and exciting exhibitions to the community and look forward to receiving new bookings as of October. We are trialling this new system - so please bear with us as we move forward.

As always our gallery is FREE to hire and we offer a month at a time - you can change the artwork as often as you like within that month. Our gallery wall is 4.67m x 1.97m and we offer a hanging system so framed artwork is best.

If you have any queries please do pop in to the library and talk to a member of staff.
