I’ve put together a video to help Dutyholders understand how the introduction of the new British Standard for Fire Risk Assessments in housing premises, BS9792:2025, affects them.

In case you’ve missed it, BS9792 is a new methodology for not just producing a fire risk assessment report, but clarifying the entire process from instruction to dealing with findings and ongoing management.

There’s a lot of emphasis on the Dutyholder’s roles and responsibilities, and what is expected of them. It also addresses Person Centred Fire Risk Assessments (PCFRAs).

“How long does it take for my fire risk assessment report to be ready?” ⏳
Our completed fire risk assessment report will be sent to you within ten working days of our visit to your site 👍

The exact turnaround time could be slightly longer or shorter depending on whether the assessor is waiting on information from the Responsible Person for the premises, so we ask for some flexibility in this scenario.

However, as a general rule of thumb, you can expect your report within this timeframe ✅

The raging fire at a block of flats in Dagenham, East London a few weeks ago was yet another reminder of the importance of fire risk assessments.

One of the building’s residents claimed the fire alarms failed to go off during the emergency.
Cydney Parker, a young mother, claimed the alarms in the building had gone off for "no reason" many times in the past, but when the residents needed them "they didn't go off".

Alarm & detector maintenance & service records, and any existing alarm issues are just one of many fire safety features that should be reviewed in the fire risk assessment for the premises. Properly serviced and maintained alert systems should reduce the instances of fire alarms not going off when they’re supposed to but more importantly, ensure that they go off when they should.
