Safer Internet Day 2026 – Tuesday 10 February 2026

Safer Internet Day is a global awareness day that encourages children, young people and adults to think carefully about how we use the online world and digital technology. It’s a useful annual prompt to refresh conversations about online safety, wellbeing and responsible digital behaviour. The themes for 2026 are Smart tech, safe choices – exploring the safe and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence.

The focus reflects how quickly AI and smart technologies are becoming part of children’s everyday online experiences and has an emphasis is on helping young people develop confidence, critical thinking and good judgement when using digital tools, rather than fear or restriction. Safer Internet Day is an opportunity to:

Reflect and reinforce existing online safety messages
Encourage open, age-appropriate conversations about AI and digital decision-making
Remind staff and families that online safety is an ongoing safeguarding responsibility, not a one-off session or discussion.

A new public health campaign supported by Magenta Living has launched in Wirral to encourage young people to take greater responsibility for their sexual health. Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted infection amongst young people. Testing is free, painless and confidential. Young people can access testing via https://www.sexualhealthwirral.nhs.uk/services/clinic-timetable/

DRUG ALERT: Ketamine contaminated with medetomididine

Ketamine in the North West has tested positive for medetomidine, a very strong veterinary sedative. You can’t see, smell, or taste the difference.

This mix can cause:
• Extreme, long-lasting sedation
• Slow or shallow breathing
• Loss of consciousness
• Higher risk of overdose and harm

Stay safer: test first, start small, don’t use alone, look after your mates, carry naloxone, and call 999 if someone collapses or stops breathing.

If you’ve had a bad reaction or a positive test result, please let us know. It helps keep people safe.

Support from Wirral Ways is free and confidential.
