Wirral Schools' Library Service

Wirral Schools' Library Service Books, resources, artefacts and advice on school library provision. Sharing a love of ŕeading for pleasure.

SLS is available to all maintained primary schools in Wirral, other Wirral schools and schools from outside the area are welcome to subscribe. Wirral Schools’ Library Service is currently available to all maintained nurseries, primary schools and special schools and staff hope to re-establish a service offer to secondary schools in the near future. We provide a range of up to date resources which

support the national curriculum and reading for pleasure. We also offer advice and practical solutions to help schools provide excellent school libraries. Our team of librarians, Louise Rice, Catherine McNally and Annabel Leinster, have the experience and curriculum knowledge to compile collections of resources tailored to individual school needs and are always willing to offer advice on any aspect of the school library. Our Library manager Wendy Bryan also has the IT knowledge to offer technological solutions.

🏫 From the classroom: real stories, real impact.

In this creative example of practice, Amy Greatrex (Bucklesham Primary School) explores how Book Crowns can be used to make children’s reading identities visible and valued across the school community. Through a shared, celebratory approach involving staff, pupils and families, the project encouraged rich book talk and supported the development of children’s evolving reading lives.

Sir David Attenborough is 100 this week. Let's celebrate his incredible contribution to science, storytelling, and conservation. His books and wildlife documentaries have inspired generations of children to explore the natural world with curiosity and kindness.
This is a perfect moment to encourage pupils to read about animals, learn how ecosystems work, and think about how we can protect our planet. 🥳
