🏡 Representing Bidston, Beechwood & Birkenhead 💚 Let’s turn our ward GREEN! [email protected] 📬

28/05/2026

❗️ Dates revealed! Weekly food waste collections are starting in Wirral from 6 July, in three phases:

🍏 The week beginning Monday 6 July
🧀 The week beginning Monday 27 July
🍞 The week beginning Monday 17 August

From June, you'll start receiving:

🗑️ An outdoor food waste caddy with a secure lid
🗑️ A smaller kitchen caddy for everyday use
🗑️ A roll of liners and information about how to use the service

A sticker on your outdoor caddy will tell you whether your food waste collections start on the week beginning 6 July, 27 July or 17 August. Your collections will be on the same day as your grey and green bin collection.

The new service is part of the Government’s ‘Simpler Recycling’ programme which has already seen a significant change this year in Wirral, with foil, aerosol sprays, plastic tubs and trays and drinks cartons now able to be recycled in your grey bins.

Look out for more updates soon.

🪧New No Fly-Tipping Signs in Birkenhead… But Still No Enforcement

New “No Fly Tipping” signs are up in Birkenhead warning of £50,000 fines and CCTV.

Yet here’s three sofas dumped right underneath one with zero enforcement and no action from Wirral Council.

Empty signs aren’t cutting it.

As local Green Party campaigners, we have reported this today (FS-Case-841751964 ) we can be better, with real enforcement, improved waste removal services, and proper prevention.

Enough is enough. Clean up our streets!

🍏In March 2026 Wirral Foodbank Supported 630 Households in Crisis and sadly, 31% of those households had children.

Wirral Food Bank provided 1,240 emergency food parcels to local people facing hardship, including 393 parcels for children.

The biggest reasons people needed emergency food support were:
📈 Rising cost of living (32%)
💳 Debt (26%)
💷 Delays or issues with Social Security payments (19%)
🏥 Health challenges (12%)

Behind every number is a person or family facing impossible choices.

Thank you to everyone who donates, shares their message, volunteers, and offers their support, the kindness & donations you give makes a real difference across Wirral.

Go follow them & see the amazing work they do !
