🚧 UPDATE: The lonely traffic cone saga has come to an end! 😂
I’m pleased to report that after a few days of standing there all on its own, looking completely out of place and silently annoying me… THE CONE HAS GONE! 🎉😂
We reported it, and someone has finally come to its rescue. No more wondering where it came from, no more staring at it every time we pass.
It just goes to show that sometimes it really is the little things! 😂

Please be careful on Romsley Road at the Adams Hill junction. The 002 bus has driven into the pedestrian guardrail, visibility when pulling out of Romsley Road onto Adams Hill is not the best.

Oh wow! 🎉 Doris Green is officially 100 years old! What an incredible milestone. Wishing Doris a very happy 100th birthday,

Doris A True Community Anchor (1950s – late 1980s)
The Heart of Ley Hill
Doris and Norman opened their greengrocer to serve the postwar housing estates expanding across Northfield and Bartley Green. For roughly three decades, they were the lifeblood of the local street and a familiar part of everyday life for generations of families.

While Norman took on the gruelling early morning runs to the Birmingham wholesale markets, bringing back the freshest seasonal fruit and vegetables, Doris was the beloved master of the front counter. She knew her customers, their families and, often, what was happening in their lives.
Nothing came wrapped in plastic. Doris weighed everything out on the classic shop scales and sold the produce loose, just as a traditional greengrocer should. But customers came for more than the fruit and vegetables. A visit to Doris’s counter was a chance to catch up, exchange local news and have a proper conversation with a familiar face. The shop was as much a meeting place as it was a place to buy the weekly vegetables.
Their greengrocer stood proudly as one of the core pillars of the vibrant local shopping parade on Taysfield Road serving families alongside Pearsalls the butcher, the local newsagent and Victoria Wine. Together, these independent shops formed the fabric of the community.

Doris’s contribution to the community went well beyond the greengrocer. She also played an active role at Holloway Hall, particularly within the ladies’ section, where she helped bring people together and was involved in running the Bingo group. It was another example of the important role she played in the social life of the area.
For Doris, serving the community was never simply about running a business. Whether she was behind the counter at the greengrocer or involved with the ladies at Holloway Hall she was part of the network that kept neighbours connected. Her warmth, conversation and willingness to get involved made her a familiar and much loved figure in local life.

🚧 The case of the lonely traffic cone… 😂
This poor traffic cone has been annoying me for the last few days. All on its own, completely out of place and somehow VERY noticeable. 👀
But seriously… where has it even come from? Has it escaped from a roadworks site? Been abandoned by its cone family? Is it just waiting for someone to come and collect it? 🤷‍♂️😂
And it’s the little things that can be just as annoying as the bigger issues. So, after a few days of silently judging this lonely little cone, we’ve finally reported it. 😂
Hopefully its long-awaited reunion with the rest of the traffic cone family is imminent. 🚧❤️
