For more than eight years, Cheryl lived with ongoing knee pain that gradually wore away at her independence and enjoyment of everyday life. A recommendation led Cheryl to The Woodlands Suite, Private Care at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, where she underwent a complex revision total knee replacement.

She is now moving more freely, regaining her independence, and looking forward to the things she loves most . In her son’s words, “It’s like getting my mom back after eight years.”

By choosing private care at The Woodlands Suite, patients receive specialist orthopaedic care, and with reinvestment back into the NHS, they also help support exceptional care across the ROH.

Preparing for surgery can sometimes feel daunting. Not preparing properly can impact how well patients recover from surgery. By using an app as a virtual guide throughout the entire journey, patients at the ROH are benefitting from optimised recoveries.

Kim was given the app to download at her first appointment and used it regularly throughout her patient journey. She explains: “I knew exactly what was going on, what I should be doing to prepare for the surgery, what you should be expecting and all the exercises to do. Post-op you're doing all your exercises, you get told what your walking speed is, when it's safe to do things. It’s as if someone is there giving you the confidence, helping with managing your expectations.”
