✈️ Meet Corporal Daniel Sheridan – Taking the leap for a cause this December!
“Ever since I was about 11 or 12, I’ve wanted to be a pilot in the RAF. Three years ago, I joined 479 (Rubery) Squadron Air Cadets to start learning the skills I’d need to get there; and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!”
Since joining Cadets, Daniel has taken part in Cadet Camps, unique opportunities such as museum visits, mountain biking, shooting, DofE, abseiling, and team-building activities. He has also experienced both flying and gliding lessons, which strengthened his passion for aviation and his ambition to one day become a pilot in the Royal Air Force. Daniel has also developed as a young leader sharing “Becoming a Corporal has pushed me to take on responsibility and develop skills I’ll carry for life.”
Daniel explained that he wanted to take on a fundraiser that truly pushed him beyond his comfort zone. He chose a skydive as it felt not only symbolic of his passion for flight, but also a fitting way to celebrate his 16th birthday while supporting two causes close to his heart: the RAF Benevolent Fund and 479 (Rubery) Squadron.
The RAF Benevolent Fund provides vital emotional, financial, and practical support to serving and former RAF members and their families — a mission Daniel feels inspired by as a young person hoping to join the service. Half of his fundraising will also go to his home squadron, which he credits with helping him build confidence, discipline, and a strong sense of belonging.
Daniel initially set a fundraising target of £400, but has already surpassed £970 and hopes to reach £1,100 by jump day.
To support Daniel and his chosen causes, you can donate via his GoFundMe page Every contribution helps the RAF Benevolent Fund continue their incredible work and supports 479 Squadron in providing opportunities for future cadets.
