Years of leaks have taken their toll on the ceilings at MRB, leaving cracks, holes and damaged plasterwork behind.

The team is now carefully repairing these areas, ready for the next stage of restoration. Once the repairs are complete, the ceilings will be replastered, helping to bring them back to their former glory.

Stop scrolling… we’ve got news! 🥳

We’ve been awarded £9.27m from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

This means we can restore the Gala Pool, create new spaces for health and wellbeing, and help make Moseley Road Baths a place the community can enjoy for generations to come.

One of the most recognisable features of MRB is the beautiful and vibrant glazed brickwork.

The bricks, made by the Stourbridge Glazed Brick Company, come in ivory, green, turquoise blue and cream, and give the interior of the Baths its distinctive colour and character.

They’ve been part of the building since it opened in 1907 and are one of the details people often remember most.

As part of the restoration, we’re making sure the brickwork can remain a key feature of the building.

The foyer stairs leading up to the mezzanine have had a good clean. The white paint has been removed, revealing the surface underneath. As you can see from the before and after photos, this was a very satisfying job to complete!

You might have to use your imagination for this one... it's two newly constructed lift shafts!

They might not look exciting right now but these photos show the new lift shafts for the library and for the Baths. They will allow accessible access to the mezzanine floor of the library and the upper floor of MRB.

The cast iron gutters have arrived for the slipper bath roofs at MRB. You can see the amazing brackets that will be used to attach them to the building. Alongside this work, the final roof slates are being put up, with one of the roofs already done! You can see the scaffolding being removed to expose the beautiful windows, which are next on our to do list to restore.

Boiler room update

Check out the boiler room in 1907. Coal was used at this time as the source of fuel, later replaced with oil and then steam. As part of the Diving in Project, we will be replacing the steam boilers with air source heat pumps. These will be much more efficient and environmentally friendly.

The team have worked hard recently to clean this room and remove all the asbestos.
