This service is for Birmingham residents. We deliver books and other library materials to people who find it hard to get out of their homes without help.

We personally select items that best match each customer's preferred reading, including their choice of reading format—be that regular or large print, as well as audio. Some people choose to have a mix of all three. That is not a problem; we aim to please."

All of our personally chosen library items for this week are prepped and awaiting delivery to all of our lovely customers.
Drum roll please.....
Accocks Green, Hall Green, Oscott, Perry Barr, Edgbaston, Ladywood, Selly Oak, Hodge Hill, Washwood Heath, Newhall and Tyburn.
Plus we have even managed to squeeze in four separate residential home visits for people living in sheltered or supported housing.

As Halloween is just around the corner Bumble couldn't wait to reveal that she's going as Polyphemus, the giant man-eating Cyclops from Homer's The Odyssey.

Written around the 7th Century B.C. the ancient story has had a bit of a popularity boost of late due to Christopher Nolan's movie version

Ageing Well Month 2026
Throughout the month, residents are being encouraged to visit Library of Birmingham’s Wellbeing Zone every Tuesday for special Ageing Well events, including:
• 6th October - Ageing Well Event
• 13th October - Brain Health Day, featuring free blood pressure checks, flu and Covid vaccinations, and advice on keeping your brain healthy
• 20th October - Celebrating Older People
• 27th October - Ageing Well in Birmingham Event
This year's messages are simple: look after your heart, stay sharp, keep connected and keep moving. These everyday actions can support brain health, reduce frailty, improve wellbeing and help us live well for longer.
Please take advantage of these events and also share amongst your networks. Together, we can help Birmingham become a city where everyone can age well and thrive.

September into October is always a very busy time for us at Library Services at Home, during this period we plan & organise all of our citywide community visits for 2027!
All our visits are scheduled so there is a lot to check and recheck to ensure nobody and no area is missed out...
Its always a team effort but staff member Richard in particular has worked really hard with putting the show on the road for 2027.
As usual the calendar dates for each person will be updated during December and January.

This week we are lashing on the sunscreen as we visit customers in Four Oaks, Trinity, Quinton, Weoley Castle, Brandwood, Moseley, Kings Heath, Erdington, Kingstanding. We are also visiting a number of residential homes to refresh the books in their libraries and lounges 😎🌞🌻
