In support of Baby Loss Awareness Week, we remember Oliver and Jacob, and every little life gone too soon.

For Georgina and Matt, the joy of expecting twins turned into unimaginable heartbreak when their sons, Oliver and Jacob, were born prematurely at just 25 weeks. Despite the dedicated care they received in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, both boys sadly died within weeks of their birth.

In honour of their boys, Georgina and Matt have created a lasting legacy by taking special opportunities of remembrance. Their story is a reminder that the tiniest feet leave the biggest imprint and that every family's experience of baby loss should be remembered with compassion and support.

This Baby Loss Awareness Week, we invite you to share a message of remembrance. Together, we can create a space of love, support and remembrance for every family affected by pregnancy or baby loss.

Congratulations to our 'Unsung Hero' finalist at this year's BWC Spirit Awards ✨

Anita Haslewood, Band 6 Antenatal Clinic Midwife - Anita is known as "the heart of our Antenatal Clinic", providing unwavering support to both colleagues and families. Colleagues describe feeling reassured simply by her presence, knowing that no matter how challenging the day, Anita will help find a way through.

Lisa Perrett, Family Support Worker, Ward 7 - Lisa is dedicated to supporting patients, families and staff on Ward 7. She tirelessly coordinates support across social care, education, transport, housing, visa services and interpreters, overcoming barriers and advocating for families at every opportunity. Families describe Lisa as a “gem” and “one in a million".

Ozlem Yilmaz, Dietetic Assistant - Ozlem demonstrated exceptional compassion, professionalism and dedication when she stepped in at very short notice to support a family attending a clinic appointment regarding a pregnancy potentially affected by a rare mitochondrial disorder. Despite the personal challenge of conveying such distressing news, Ozlem approached the situation with empathy, sensitivity and professionalism.

Colleagues across the Trust have reduced BWC's carbon emissions (April 2025 - March 2026) by 18 per cent, the same as heating 4,683 UK homes a year, or an average car travelling around the world 1,030 times.

Later this week, we'll be marking Baby Loss Awareness Week, bringing bereaved parents, families and friends together to honour precious lives that have been lost.

Introducing our Rising Stars for this year's BWC Spirit Awards ⭐

Olivia Beveridge, Perinatal Palliative Care Nurse: Despite being in post for less than a year, Olivia has significantly expanded perinatal palliative care support by introducing leaflets, contact cards and introducing touchpoint appointments to improve care for families facing the most challenging circumstances.

Kiran Duggal, Family Support Worker: Kiran has transformed support for families within the Complications of Excess Weight service through her compassionate approach, innovative family initiatives and helping families build confidence, reduce isolation and develop supportive connections.

Lynda O’Connor, Surgical Care Practitioner: Since becoming our Children’s Hospital’s first SCP two years ago, Lynda has been instrumental in establishing the highly successful Fontan School, supporting families before surgery and recently presented its benefits at the Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons conference.

A new mum has become the first in Europe to be recruited into a world-first clinical trial which could prevent infant deaths and stillbirths from a life-threatening bacterial infection.

Menna Hulme was given a vaccination against Group B streptococcus (GBS) whilst pregnant after being recruited into the BEATRIX study at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.

The research team at the hospital is supported by the Central and North West Midlands Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC), a network hosted by our Trust, which helps to speed up trials, ensuring they run efficiently.

It is hoped the BEATRIX Study will lead to the world’s first approved vaccine to prevent GBS which kills 50 babies a year in the UK, whilst causing a further 70 babies to survive with long-term disabilities.
