Please note, the below features content regarding pregnancy and baby loss.

This year, Baby Loss Awareness Week runs from Wednesday 9 to Tuesday 15 October and is a special opportunity to remember our much-loved and missed babies gone too soon and raise awareness of pregnancy and baby loss. It’s an incredibly important week at our hospital and is a time for bereaved parents, families and friends to come together and honour the precious lives that have been lost.

Join us in this time of remembrance by purchasing our special charity wax melts or candle, symbolising the light that these precious babies brought into our lives. Light your candle at 7pm on Tuesday 15 October as we come together with families across the country for the globally recognised Wave of Light commemorations. 🕯️

Together, we can create a Wave of Light that flows around the world. 💜

Did you know...? ✨

🏥 Approximately 1,300 patients at our hospital will need an MRI scan as part of their diagnosis and treatment.

🏥 Around 60% will wait longer than six weeks for their scan.

🏥 By not having a scanner at the Women’s Hospital, patients currently need to travel to the next closest hospital with an available appointment, which can often be over an hour away.

🏥 Women and families face extra stress and potential financial costs at a time when they may already be feeling vulnerable.

We think our patients deserve better and we hope you can help. 💜

“From the moment I arrived at the hospital, I was made to feel completely at ease. I genuinely couldn’t have wished for anything more.” 💜

Mum Alicia welcomed her son Otto earlier this year and as a carrier of Group B Strep (GBS), she knew she would have to go into hospital as soon as her labour started.

She said: “Although I knew from the beginning that I wouldn’t be able to have the water birth I had planned, it didn’t matter in the end as I felt comfortable birthing whichever way came naturally. My gorgeous midwife, Maud, never left my side, and honestly, I don’t think I would have managed as well as I did without her.

"I can’t thank the amazing team of midwives, student midwives, surgeons, anaesthetists and HCAs enough."

“We see first-hand how vital it is for bereaved families to receive the right support during what is often one of the most difficult times in their lives."

A new service for parents who have experienced baby loss during pregnancy or shortly after birth has launched at our Women’s Hospital. 💜

Petals, the UK's specialist baby loss counselling charity, will be providing the new service, expanding existing access to vital mental health support for bereaved parents across the West Midlands.

"I'm forever grateful for Birmingham Women's Hospital delivering my baby girl five weeks early and looking after her and myself after many complications." 💜

Mum Roni, a Mum who has Loeys-Dietz syndrome, a rare genetic connective tissue condition that affects the heart, blood vessels, skeleton, and skin.

Roni welcomed her third child Zeniyah-Rose in May this year and after a short stay in NICU due to an aortic arch on her right side, both Roni and Zeniyah-Rose are now at home and thriving together 💞

Did you know around 270 pregnant women at our hospital need an in utero fetal MRI scan?

Scanning a baby in the womb gives families and clinicians more information than an ultrasound can, improving the accuracy of prenatal diagnoses and informing treatment plans.

But right now, our pregnant patients have to travel to another hospital, at a time when they may already be feeling vulnerable.

We need to raise £1.5m to bring the brand new MRI suite to our hospital, improving diagnoses and treatment for poorly women and babies. Can you help us bring a state-of-the-art MRI scanner to our hospital for our women and families?
