50 years ago on the 1st September 1976, I walked through the door of Harborne Library, the start of the most wonderful job! Such an amazing diverse occupation, working with all ages from 0-100, visiting schools and nurseries, being creative, storytelling, promoting reading and serving our lovely community, whilst making so many friends along the way.
I've loved every moment of it but now it's time to hang up my date stamp!
This really is the best library. Make sure you use it and support it so that it continues to thrive and be the lively, vibrant, most important place on our High Street and I'll see you all on your side of the counter 😃
A special little thank you to all our social media friends from far and wide, you've interacted wonderfully over the years and I'll really miss posting on this page ❤️

Harborne Library (currently open as usual) - update

Part of the front elevation of the roof at Harborne Library requires urgent repair, in order to make it safe. The slippage was caused by age-related issues. Emergency scaffolding has been erected with temporary barriers on Health and Safety grounds. Works will be undertaken to rectify the issues identified.

The roof works are scheduled to commence on 1st September 2026 and are expected to be completed over the next few weeks and are subject to further investigations.

Today we remember and celebrate the
unwavering advocate for the joy and
importance of reading - the icon, Dolly
Parton.
Dolly once said, You can never get enough
books into the hands of enough children'... but
she gave it a pretty good go, donating more
than 300 million books over 30+ years
through her Imagination Library.
By putting so many books into the bands of so
many children, she gave the most precious of
gifts: the chance to millions of young minds of
opening the door to imagination, possibility
and a lifelong love of reading.
Thank you, Dolly!
