Liberal Democrats: We cannot increase our reliance on US technology while the President is tearing up the rules-based order and threatening our allies.

Ministers must wake up to reality, cancel their misguided F-35A order, and buy British jets instead.

Evidence shows that tackling inequalities helps us all. Liberal Democrats are the party with solutions that help our economy and bring our country together. Both can be done at the same time. People need to feel that the system works for them.

On behalf of the Liberal Democrat Birmingham City Council Group, the Group Leader Cllr Roger Harmer, wrote in his letter to the Lord Mayor today:
โ€œThe reflection delivered at the AGM, accompanied by an English translation, promoted values of unity, respect, honesty and service to others. These are universal principles that resonate across communities and faiths throughout Birmingham.

As a city, Birmingham's strength lies in its diversity. Recognising different faiths, cultures and traditions within our civic life is not exclusionary; it reflects the communities we are elected to serve.

At a time when we are trying to come together as a city and work constructively to form an administration, we need something better than divisiveness. Our focus should be on building relationships, finding common ground and delivering for Birmingham residents, rather than creating unnecessary division over respectful expressions of faith and community values.

We remain committed to working with colleagues across the Council in a spirit of respect, inclusion and cooperation for the benefit of our city.โ€

As the Champions League final kicks off today, millions of football fans are being priced out by TNT Sports locking it behind a paywall.

We are calling on the government to change the law and guarantee these games are always free-to-air!

In too many young people have been let down for far too long. We need to change that. Young people in our great city deserve much better.

Birmingham City Council is to reconvene next Friday night to select its next leader and decide who is to run the local authority, the biggest in Europe.

In a bizarre choice of time and date, the annual meeting of the council will take place on Friday June 5th at 6pm. The meeting will be livestreamed.

It will be the first opportunity for the council's 101 new members to cast their votes on who should take charge after local elections on May 7 resulted in a 'hung' council, with no party gaining enough seats to take control.

On 18 February 1978, Birmingham saw one of the largest anti-fascist confrontations of the era. Over 7000 anti-fascists, including trade unionists, Black community groups, socialists, football fans and large numbers of local young people opposed a National Front rally at Digbeth Civic Hall, which was part of a wider push by the far-right to recruit young people.
