Water is precious.

In England and Wales, demand is rising while supply faces growing pressure from population growth and climate change.

By 2055, England alone will need an extra 5 billion litres of water every day. That's like 25 million people running the tap for 20 minutes every day.
In Wales, climate change is creating increasing uncertainty about future water supplies.

Following the launch of Let's Save Water, a new water efficiency campaign, Ofwat’s Director of Engagement and Marketing Campaigns, Felicity Beverley, shares her thoughts on the growing pressures facing water supplies and why changing the way we use water is one of the most important steps we can take to build resilience for the future.

World Water Week is a timely reminder that water is one of our most precious resources. 💧

This year, it comes as many parts of England continue to experience dry weather; a reminder that the water we rely on every day isn't unlimited. While protecting our water resources requires long-term investment, infrastructure and planning, the choices we make at home can help too.

Simple actions like taking a shorter shower, fixing leaks or turning off the tap while brushing your teeth, can all reduce unnecessary water use.

Have you been affected by recent water supply interruptions?

Water companies have a responsibility to support customers in vulnerable circumstances. They will prioritise help to those who need it most.

If you need extra help from your water company due to life factors, such as a health condition, or being of pensionable age, contact your water company to check if you're eligible for their Priority Services Register.

If you have a child under five, you can sign up for free to your water company's Priority Services Register.

You'll get:

- advance notice before any planned work near your home

- more regular updates if there's an emergency affecting your water

- bottled water delivered to you until your supply is restored

The Priority Services Register is there for people who need extra support, like Penny.

Joining her water company's Priority Services Register means they can set up third party billing for her, so that her trusted contact can manage her account on her behalf.
