Friction in Sycamore! 🔍
Last week, while learning about Forces, came Friction. We were amazed to find that the friction we created, could hold an entire bottle filled with sand, when lifted by a paint brush. Each of us could describe the forces behind our investigation by working scientifically. We definitely have some future scientists among us!

🏴‍☠️ Sail the Seas!! 🏴‍☠️
Chestnut Class have had a fantastic time exploring life as pirates! From dressing up and creating imaginative stories with pirate ships and ocean creatures, to making treasure maps and digging for coins in the sand, the children have fully immersed themselves in their learning.
They’ve built ships and treasure chests, created islands with playdough, and even designed boats to test in the water as part of a science experiment! Using their telescopes, they kept a lookout for pirates in the garden too!
Next week, it’s full steam ahead as they learn about famous pirates from the past and explore pirate artwork inspired by Howard Pyle.
Arghhh me hearties! 🏴‍☠️

🌻Let's Grow!🌻
Chestnut Class have had an amazing time planting sunflowers in the poly-tunnel with Sarah. The children listened well to the instructions and all had a great time filling their pots with compost soil, making a little hole with their finger and hiding the little seed once they dropped it in the soil. The children could discuss what plants need to grow and are excited to watch them grow over time. 🌻❤️

🌏 Island Hopping in Reception! 🌸
Today, the children in Reception have been busy island hopping and exploring the fascinating country of Japan! 🇯🇵

With Mrs Barker, they learned where Japan is located on the world map and created beautiful collages of the Japanese flag. They also discovered that Tokyo is the capital city and even learned how to recognise their names in Japanese. To finish their journey, the children created stunning artwork inspired by Japan’s famous cherry blossom trees 🌸 — their work looked absolutely fantastic.

What a wonderful day of learning and creativity! ✨

🚒 Fire Safety Workshop in Oak Class 🔥
Oak Class had an exciting visit from the Bishop Auckland White Watch, who came in to teach us all about fire safety and how to keep ourselves safe.
The children learned about potential fire hazards in the bedroom and discussed what they should do if a fire ever broke out. They were fascinated to find out about the amp limits of extension leads and why it’s so important not to overload them!
It was a really informative session and the children asked some fantastic questions. As part of their learning, they’ve even been set some important homework—to talk with their grown-ups about an exit plan and what to do in the event of a fire.
A huge thank you to the team for such a valuable and engaging visit! 👏🔥

Peer Pressure

This week Oak pupils took part in an engaging workshop on peer pressure delivered by the County Durham Drug and Alcohol Recovery Service.

Have a look at these fantastic posters—children contributed thoughtfully, shared their ideas confidently, and listened carefully throughout. It was wonderful to see such mature discussions and creativity in their work.
