🐴 Please Take Extra Care Around Horses on Our Roads 🐴

We would like to remind motorists about the importance of driving safely when encountering horses on the road. Horses can be easily startled by vehicles, particularly those travelling too quickly or passing too closely.

Many riders have no alternative but to use sections of the road network to access bridleways and local routes. A moment of patience from drivers can make a significant difference to everyone's safety.

When approaching horses:

🚗 Reduce your speed and approach with caution
🐎 Leave plenty of room when passing
🤝 Be patient and avoid unnecessary noise or sudden movements
✋ Pay attention to any signals from the rider
⏳ Wait for a safe opportunity to pass if the road is narrow

No journey is so urgent that it's worth putting someone's safety at risk. By showing consideration to horse riders and other vulnerable road users, we can help prevent collisions and injuries.

For further information and advice, please visit the British Horse Society website: Advice for motorists | The British Horse Society

If you are a rider and wear a helmet cam or have video footage you can report incidents to West Mercia Operation Snap via our website Operation Snap | West Mercia Police

Officers from Bishops Castle Safer Neighbourhood Team, alongside our colleagues from Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service, attended a road traffic collision in Bishops Castle involving a car and a lorry.

While the collision appears significant, the car's safety features did their job, and thankfully all occupants were able to exit the vehicle without injury.

The scene was cleared quickly, and the road remained open throughout. We would like to thank everyone for their patience and cooperation while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Officers from across South Shropshire were out supporting another fantastic event at Ludlow Castle last night as Rick Astley entertained a packed crowd.

With thousands enjoying a great evening of live music in the beautiful castle setting, everyone was in good spirits and the atmosphere was outstanding from start to finish. Most importantly, we're pleased to report that there were no issues reported during the event.

A huge thank you to the organisers, event staff, stewards and everyone working behind the scenes who help make these events such a success.

🚨 Making Nights Out Safer Across Shropshire🚨

A growing number of pubs, clubs and licensed venues across Shropshire are now using SmartTag forensic spray to help tackle violence, disorder and anti-social behaviour.

Working in partnership with venue security teams, this innovative technology helps protect staff, customers and the wider public while supporting police investigations.

How does it work?
SmartTag is invisible to the naked eye, but not to the police. Anyone involved in violent or disorderly behaviour can be identified long after they've left the venue. The forensic marking remains on skin, hair and clothing for weeks and can be detected using UV light, providing valuable evidence to help identify offenders.

✅ Helps deter violence and disorder
✅ Improves safety for staff and customers
✅ Provides valuable evidence for police investigations
✅ Safe, non-harmful and effective

Together, we're creating safer environments for everyone to enjoy a night out. Have a great night out, respect those around you and make responsible choices
