All our walks are led by experienced walk leaders who have planned their favourite routes to help you explore this beautiful borderland. The Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, nestling near the Welsh borders, is recognised as one of Britain’s finest landscapes. With hundreds of miles of public footpaths, the countryside around Bishop’s Castle is a walker's dream. This historic to

wn can be reached in about 1½ hours from Birmingham or Chester, 2 hours from Manchester and 2 ½ hours from Oxford or Bristol. Our eighteenth Festival offers five days of guided walks, with a choice of five walks on each day. With the Shropshire Way, Offa’s D**e and the Kerry Ridgeway all at hand and featuring in our programme, there’s a lot of choice from wide, open hilltops to narrow, winding valleys, and fantastic views. Bishop’s Castle is a friendly and welcoming market town with two breweries, six pubs, interesting independent shops and a well-established programme of festivals, music and arts.

Bluebells and buttercups added splashes of colour on this walk along the Offa's D**e footpath. The D**e is one of the longest linear earthworks in Britain, built by King Offa of Mercia in the 8th century, and runs north south roughly along the Welsh border. The walk included a detour into the pretty town of Montgomery for refreshments.

There was a short, sharp hail storm as we headed out across Stapeley Common on Day One passing through Mitchell’s Fold stone circle, to reach the distinctive landmark of Bromlow Callow. Brighter spells followed, we soon dried out and were treated to tremendous views, great company and good conversations.
