This is exactly why Cllr Richard Stanley, Cllr Alex Hegenbarth and I stood to represent our communities at Gloucestershire County Council — to make a difference and ensure residents’ voices are heard. By working with officers, we can challenge mistakes, press for accountability, and push for solutions that benefit everyone.
I know how disruptive these works have been, and I’d like to thank all the residents who raised their concerns. Your persistence has made sure action was taken quickly. I will continue working with colleagues and officers to prevent situations like this from happening again and to make sure our communities remain at the heart of decision-making.
Gloucestershire County Council statement: An apology to residents and update on works on B4632 Southam Road.
We sincerely apologise to residents that have been impacted by the pavement works on the B4632 Southam Road this week. We understand the disruption caused has been frustrating and upsetting, and we’re truly sorry.
Local county councillors and residents have raised concerns with us about the timing and impact of these works, and as a result, we have stopped all works tonight and removed the temporary traffic lights. The pavement will need to remain closed until the remaining works have been completed, which will be carried out over a weekend to minimise disruption for residents.
With the A435 already closed and causing disruption, these works should not have been approved. This was a mistake, and we take full responsibility.
We will also be following up with the traffic management company regarding the poor quality of temporary traffic lights supplied, which we know only added to the frustration and inconvenience experienced by residents.
We remain committed to listening to our communities and wish to thank everyone who voiced their concerns—we’re determined to do better in the future.
