Councillor Liz Johnson spoke with local Labour member Dan Fisher about a long stretch of damaged pavement near Lower Darwen Primary School. After raising it with the council, it was inspected and marked for repair within a few days.

We are appealing for witnesses and footage after a pedestrian was left with serious injuries following a road traffic collision in Darwen.

Our officers were called to Roman Road, Darwen at 5:37am on Wednesday 30th September following reports a pedestrian had been injured following a collision with a white Ford Transit van.

The collision happened as the driver of the van was driving down hill towards Grimshaw, along Roman Road.

The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries where he remains at this time

The driver of the van, a 27 year old man from Darwen, remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of drug driving.

He is currently in custody.

Councillor Liz Johnson contacted Blackburn with Darwen Highways after a resident alerted her to a number of issues.

An inspection was carried out on Bog Height Road and three actionable defects were found. These are now due for repair on 15 October 2026.

Broken Stone Road was also inspected and found to have seven actionable defects which will be repaired on 15 October 2026.

Both of these roads will also receive a full safety inspection in mid October.

Further issues that were raised with her have been brought to attention of relevant departments by Councillor Liz Johnson.
