🌈 At B&FC, we are proud to celebrate diversity in all its forms.

Pride Month is a chance to recognise and support our LGBTQ+ students, staff, and allies. Everyone deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued for who they are.

We are committed to fostering an inclusive environment where every voice is heard and every identity is celebrated. Pride is not just for the LGBTQ+ community – it’s for allies too.

Being an ally means:
βœ… Listening and learning
βœ… Challenging discrimination
βœ… Supporting friends and colleagues
βœ… Promoting equality and respect

Small actions can make a big difference in creating inclusive spaces where everyone feels valued.

Let’s stand together and make our community stronger, this month and every month. 🌈✨

🌈LGBTQ+ Icons🌈

This Pride Month, we celebrate some incredible LGBTQ+ icons who have helped shape culture and inspire change:

✨ Alan Turing – A wartime codebreaker and computing pioneer who was persecuted for being gay.
✨ Marsha P. Johnson – A key figure in the Stonewall uprising and a trailblazer for trans rights.
✨ Elton John – Global music legend and advocate for LGBTQ+ equality.
✨ Laverne Cox – Actress and activist raising visibility for trans communities.

Their stories remind us of the power of authenticity and the importance of standing up for equality.

Who inspires you this Pride?

🌈Why does Pride Matter? 🌈

Pride is more than a celebration – it’s a reminder of why the work isn’t finished.

While progress has been made, inequality still exists. Many LGBTQ+ individuals continue to face discrimination, mental health challenges, and barriers to feeling safe and accepted:

πŸ’¬ In the UK, LGBTQ+ young people are twice as likely to experience poor mental health compared to their peers.
πŸ’¬ Over half (58%) of LGBTQ+ young people have seriously considered su***de, and around 1 in 5 have attempted it in the past year.
πŸ’¬ 43% of LGBTQ+ pupils are bullied at school because of who they are.

These statistics aren’t about identity – they reflect the impact of discrimination, isolation, and lack of safe spaces.

🌍 Globally, inequality is even more stark:
β€’ Around 66 countries still criminalise same-sex relationships.
β€’ In some places, people face imprisonment – or worse – simply for being themselves.

Pride exists because visibility, safety, and equality cannot be taken for granted everywhere.
Together, we create spaces where everyone can be themselves. πŸ’–

🌈 Happy Pride Month! 🌈

Pride is a celebration of how far the LGBTQ+ community has come. From the decriminalisation of homosexuality in the UK in 1967, to the legalisation of same‑sex marriage in England and Wales in 2014, huge strides have been made towards equality.

Today, LGBTQ+ people are visible in every walk of life – from politics and education to arts and sport. This progress is a testament to decades of courage, advocacy, and resilience.

Let’s celebrate that progress while continuing to build a more inclusive future for everyone. β€οΈπŸ§‘πŸ’›πŸ’šπŸ’™πŸ’œ
