Ex Alumni shows our Year 2's big steps to follow 🪖🎖

Ex Level student: Alex Bailey was in college again this week, to engage with our Year 2 leaners. Like lsst week, Alex shared his footsteps from being a Public Services student here at B&FC, being taught by current Staff member Jason and Mark and his dream to join the Parachute Regiment started from the same chairs our UPS students sit on today.

Alex has worked his way up the ranks in the Parachute Regiment to become a Sergeant and he shared his aspirations to move further up the Army ranking structure- not bad an achievement from a young man from Fleetwood!

Alex inspired our Year 2's with a classroom presentation and Q&A session, before observing their teamwork and leadership skills during a practical sports session.

Thanks to Akex inspired tales with our students, we are now looking into organising an "Alumni Guest speaker event" where we hope to welcome back more of our ex students back to college to inspire our current cohort.

Thank you again Alex and keep striving in the Parachute Regiment. We look forward to seeing how high up the ranks you get with the Army 🪖🎖🇬🇧

Alumni returns to inspire next generation 🪖🎖

Ex Public Services student Akex Bailey returned to where his British Army career dream first started , as he gave our Year 1 and FCAT students a look back over his achivements. From achieving a double Distinction star Level 3 in Public Services at B&FC, to now proudly being a Sergeant in the British Army Parachute regiment - Alex is a prime example of how our courses helps to get our students into UPS industry.

Alex shared how his discipline, fitness achievements, self pride and bags of determination whilst at B&FC, helped him go on to now be able to travel the World, drive some of the best Army vehicles, fire rockets, parachute out of planes, gain additional qualifications and achieve a range of rank promotions - all in his time with the Parachute regiment.

Alex is an inspiration to all our students looking to have a future career in the British Army. His stories were engaging, his photos and videos he shared were empowering and the pride he has to represent the British Army, was clear for all to see.

Next week, Alex will return to engage with our Year 2 students, to see how their discipline, fitness levels and drill practice compares to our Year 1 learners.

Thank you so much Alex for coming back to where it all began. We really appreciated your time and efforts this week!

Hands on insight into Police practice and achievements.

This week, our Year 1 Policing and Criminology students got a hands on experience of some of the equipment and recognition medals bought in by new UPS Staff member Steve.

Steve, being a recently retired Detective Chief Inspector, bought in collection of Police hats he wore in service, alongside giving students the opportunity to try out his handcuffs, Police jacket and Police baton. It was amazing too to see some of his medals and special recognition awards he achieved whist working in the Police. Our students enjoyed being handcuffed, trying on the range of hats and pretending to be Police officers.

Steve's vast policing experience is a valuable opportunity for our students to gain a hands on insight into policing work practices, values and standards. A number of trips, visits and guest speakers linked to the Police are being discussed to further expands our Year 1 and Year 2 Policing and Criminology learning experience.

Hate crime awareness week 2026

This week, our UPS students were invited to listening to Hate Crime Awareness Week with young Singer and Songwriter: Precious 🎶

Precious Pepala is a 21yrs old songwriter from Sheffield who was invited in to B&FC this week, to raise awareness of Hate Crime. Precious Pepala shared stories of her upbringing, bullying experiences, cultural discrimination and struggles growing up.

She treated the watching audience of her talanted songwriting skills, singing some of her hit Dark pop, Rock and Soul music. Precious, having signed her 1st record deal at just 16yrs old, has a sold out live show coming up later this month in London and Manchester. We wish her the very best and hope her career continues to flourish.

Remembrance Day practice 2026

This week, we were entertained by the musical talent of our Year 1 student Adam, who showed off his impressive skills during the morning parade, playing "The Last post" in front of watching staff and students.

For the very first time EVER, our Remembrance day service this November 2026, will have live musical performance. We don't want to give too much away, but we can announce that Adam will have a starring role to play!

Ex Army soilder and now UPS Tutor Adam, will be responsible for getting our Year 1 and Year 2 students "up to march" and ready to perform at the college annual event next month and at the Blackpool town Cenotaph Sunday service.

We teach our students to strive under pressure so we look forward to seeing our students in full UPS uniform very soon, ready to march in formation and putting on another memorable and fitting service for our fallen and serving service men and women in November. 🇬🇧 🪖🎖️

Public order training 🚔🚨🚓

We are delighted to have former Detective Chief Inspector Steve join our UPS Staff team recently.

Steve's vast experience in public order training has been a valuable hands on experience for our students so far.

They have learnt how to hold and move in formation, carrying the Police riot shields, how to act as rioters (for demonstration purposes only) and practice the commands to push rioters back to designated lines.

All students who have taken part, have asked for more opportunities to learn from Steve and are now even more determined to join the Police in the future.

Fitness testing 👟🏋🏾‍♀️

Our Year 1 and Year 2 students were put through their paces this week, logging their base line fitness levels.

All students have researched the fitness entry requirements for their chosen Emergency or Military service, so this week was a chance to push themselves to the limit, by demonstrating health and skill related fitness abilities.

There were some impressive 15 metre Bleep test results recorded, as well as individual recordings for press ups, sits ups and a range of other base line fitness assessments.

Well done to all students this week ❤️‍🔥

Royal Marines insight experience 🪖🇬🇧🎖

We were delighted to end the week with welcoming Dave and his team from David Fairbrother to engage our UPS and Sport students in a number of activities to give them a taste of a future career in Royal Marines.

Our students collectively, took part in a range of fitness testing activities, problem solving tasks, casualty carrying, team building tasks, shelter activities, leadership and teamwork tasks, reliance building and close quarters combat skills.

Their "can do attitude" was praised throughout the day, as most students requested for Dave and his team to come in again to test their skills and abilities.

This was an outstanding way to end the week as our students gained an insight in two military services, two weeks into their start at B&FC.

Discussions are already in place to being in some Emergency services to further enhance our students learning experience.
