The Lancashire Labour Group are disgusted at the decision taken by Reform UK Ltd to withdraw from the Afghan resettlement scheme.
This is a government funded programme to assist Afghan refugees who have helped our brave soldiers and who have fought for democracy and freedom.
These families are not illegal migrants, they have the legal right to stay and work in the UK!
In Afghanistan they would face torture, r**e and death under the Taliban.
They should be treated with dignity and respect and not thrown under the bus by a failing Reform UK Ltd under their increasingly unpopular and desperate leader Farage.
Shame on them!!!

The Labour Group along with other opposition parties have joined forces to call-in this disgraceful decision.

*A call-in is an official procedure that allows none cabinet members to pause and question new decisions made by cabinet before it takes effect.

We chose to defer the planning decision on the rock groynes.

We have been working with the RNLI and understand the concerns they have raised. We will continue to meet with them and explore every possible mitigation.

Nobody wants rock groynes on our beaches.
We have thoroughly examined the alternatives with specialist coastal engineers, consultants and the Environment Agency, and it is clear, Rock Groynes are the only viable option if we are serious about protecting properties from flooding.

Sand levels are falling, exposing the soft boulder clay beneath, which is eroding rapidly. If we do nothing, that erosion will undermine our existing sea defences and put homes and businesses at increasing risk.

This is about protecting our coastline and protecting people’s homes. We will continue to look at whether the design can be adapted further to reduce risks, but we cannot simply ignore the very real threat of coastal erosion and flooding.
