One thing I do as a childminder every day rain or shine is go out for a walk with the children, walking isn’t just about exercise it’s a huge learning activity. When we walk we talk, we talk about the different things we see, roadworks, dog walkers, different vehicles we see. We spot numbers on bins and buses, letters on sign posts and number plates. We talk about where people may be going in cars and places we like to go. We listen to sounds, birds singing, motorbikes roaring and leafs rustling. We spot colours and talk about seasons and the weather. On top of all that the children are learning about road safety and keeping safe outdoors. No matter where we chose to walk our conversations are endless and the learning the children gain from it is priceless. Going for a walk is one of the most important parts of our day!
