RJ Mitchell 20 May 1895 - 11 June 1937

Reginald Joseph Mitchell, who worked for the Southampton aviation company Supermarine from 1916 until 1936 designing racing seaplanes, such as the Supermarine S.6B, before leading the team that designed the Supermarine Spitfire.

In 1930, specification F7/30 was issued for a fighter aircraft able to be used by both day and night squadrons. The Spitfire which was commissioned to combat the Luftwaffe at the beginning of the Battle of Britain, was Mitchell's exact design, powered by a Rolls Royce Merlin engine prototypes K5054 first flight on 5th June 1936. Mitchell continued to refine the design until his death from cancer on 11 June 1937, not being able to witness the triumph of his invention.

Our first ever WW2 themed photoshoot for the experienced photographer was hosted by Shelia and her team this May.
Both 3 hour sessions were well supported and the models and photographers had a great time.
We still have a few tickets remaining for our September WW2 RAF Themed Photography day, which can be purchased via the ticket source link below.
If you attended in May, we would live to hear your feedback and see some of your images - please feel free to post here.
