We're really lucky in Marton to have already had several key roads resurfaced and major improvements since 2023, including around the school.
I'll continue reporting potholes in on a regular basis. These are some of the next streets to be done in Blackpool as we continue to build a better Blackpool with better and safer roads for everyone. 🌹🧡🚸

Thanks to Enveco Blackpool and the team in Marton today for our extra waste amnesty.

The cage truck was filled twice over today.

That's a significant amount of waste that isn't cramping up houses, filling back alleyways or being fly-tipped.

Please keep an eye out on this page later in the year for details of a full ward amnesty in December (just in time for your Christmas clear-outs).

Thanks again, S 🌹

Thank you to all of our foster families. Tonight, the tower will be pink in recognition of foster care fortnight and the contribution you make to young people's lives.
If you have an empty nest or a space in your home, have you considered whether you could help a young person? There's loads of support available if this sounds like it could be you.
To find out more, see the link below.

Tonight, Blackpool Tower will shine in pink for Foster Care Fortnight as a way of celebrating our fabulous fostering families 🩷

We truly do appreciate our foster carers and how you strive to change children’s lives for the better. Thank you for all that you do for Blackpool’s children and young people.

Keep your eyes peeled for the Tower lighting up in pink this evening!

People often overlook the work of councillors. Mostly, it's a long slog of backroom committees to determine the best direction or decision based on facts available at that time.

My experience over the last few years has taught me that this is a long game and that change can take time. It was great to be in the company of these 3 town stalwarts today. Cllr Fred Jackson, Former Cllr David Owen and Cllr Ivan Taylor.

Between them they have decades and decades of experience in how this town runs, the needs of residents and the options that are available at any given time.

Cllr Ivan Taylor is now the longest serving councillor in England, having represented residents of this town right back to 1966.. I remember former Cllr Lily Henderson holding this honour before she passed away a few years ago.

We may not always agree on politics, we shouldn't. We may not always agree on outcomes, again, if there's going to be points of difference, we shouldn't.

What we will all agree on, as councillors and former councillors is the level of commitment required to do the role properly.

As Blackpool appoints a new mayor in Cllr Danny Scott, I pay tribute to his excellent contribution in the committees I have attended. We often share a warm word and a joke and I'm happy to say that like all councillors, we get on, cross party, for the good of Blackpool.

A good tonic to a difficult week. It's always nice to be at mayor making and if you see any of these town champions, ask them for their memories or their sage advice- you don't have to take it but I'm sure they'd be happy to share.

Blackpool Stalwarts. Good to see Ivan marking the occasion in a Blackpool Football Club tie as well, I may steal that touch going forwards. 🧡

We await the arrival of Blackpool's new, and final mayor, Cllr Danny Scott. We all wish him well. 🌹

Preston New Road lane closures start from today. I'm told the information gathered should allow for better timings at the lights for everyone- I know several residents approached me about them earlier this year. Thank you to the highways teams for looking at them. S🌹

🚧 Lane closures on Preston New Road are starting today

The temporary lane closures from Preston New Road into Park Road Westbound and turning right from Preston New Road into South Park Drive are in place from today. They will remain for 7 days.

There are no roadworks happening - this short-term lane closure allows us to use Smart Traffic Corridor technology to collect real-time data on how the junction is used throughout the day.

💡 What this means for you

By understanding traffic patterns - from school runs to peak commuter times and weekend visits - we can plan improvements that reflect how the community actually uses this space.

This is an important step towards:

✔️ Safer and more accessible pedestrian crossings
✔️ Smoother traffic flow through the junction
✔️ A layout that works better for everyone

👂 We’ve listened to local feedback about improving access and safety in this area, and this data will help shape the next steps.

🙏 Thank you for your patience, this short term inconvenience will lead to long-term improvements to Preston New Road.
