Did you know that over 90% of bee species in the UK are solitary bees? 🐝🌿

Unlike honeybees, solitary bees don't live in colonies. Instead, each female builds her own nest, making homes in hollow stems, dead wood, soil banks and even bee hotels. πŸ‘πŸ’š

As part of our recent Family Fun Day, volunteers and families helped create solitary bee hotels that will soon be installed at Dare Valley, providing valuable nesting spaces for local pollinators. 🌼🐝

These tiny insects play a huge role in supporting biodiversity, pollinating wildflowers and helping ecosystems thrive. 🌿

Want to make a difference for nature? πŸ’š

Join us every Wednesday at Dare Valley and get involved in practical conservation activities, habitat improvement projects and volunteering opportunities that support local wildlife and green spaces.

Reducing waste starts with small everyday choices. From reusing items to cutting down on single-use plastics. πŸŒπŸ’š

At Groundwork Wales, we also see the impact waste can have on nature through our Healthy Rivers programme, where volunteers help remove litter and protect local waterways. 🌊🌿

We’re proud to support World Refill Day through our volunteering opportunities at Groundwork Wales, helping people take positive action for a cleaner, healthier environment. πŸ’š

Do you remember spending hours outdoors as a child? Building dens, jumping in puddles, hunting for bugs and exploring the world around you? πŸ¦”πŸ‚πŸŒ³

This International Day of Play, we're celebrating the power of play and the importance of giving children the freedom to explore, discover and connect with nature✨🌿

Through our Wellies in the Woods programme, children under 5 and their parents/carers can enjoy outdoor adventures together, creating memories and developing a lifelong connection with the natural world. πŸ’š

This week, we're sharing Matthew and Samuel's story and their experience of Wellies in the Woods. From discovering wildlife to enjoying quality time outdoors together, their journey is a wonderful reminder of why play matters. 🌱

πŸ‘‡ We'd love to hear from you!

What's your favourite memory of playing outdoors as a child? Tell us in the comments below. 🌿

And if you'd like to get involved with volunteering at Groundwork Wales, we'd love to hear from you too. Everyone is welcome! πŸ’š

🌿🌳 Happy International Day of
Play! 🌳🌿

Play is so much more than fun – it's a vital part of
childhood development. Through play, children build
confidence, develop social skills, strengthen their
physical health and learn how to solve problems
independently. πŸ’š

Time spent in nature can support children's wellbeing,
encourage creativity and help them develop a lifelong
connection with the natural world. πŸ¦‹πŸž

That's why we're passionate about creating
opportunities for children and families to explore, learn
and play together outdoors.

🌱 Our Wellies in the Woods programme for under 5s
gives little ones and their parents or carers the chance
to:

πŸ¦” Discover wildlife
πŸ’š Build confidence
🌱 Learn through play
🌳 Connect with nature
✨ Make lasting memories outdoors

From muddy puddles and woodland adventures to
discovering bugs and making new friends, every
session is packed with opportunities for learning,
exploration and fun. πŸ‘’πŸ‚πŸŒΌ

A couple of weeks ago, volunteers from PwC joined us for their One Firm One Day event at Parc Gwledig Cwm DΓ’r / Dare Valley Country Park

The volunteers got stuck in, moving oak sleepers as a team to create a bridge, improving access across a stream for visitors to the park πŸ₯Ύ

The volunteers also worked to thin out bramble and gorse in a patch of woodland, which will improve the biodiversity of ground flora 🌸

Thank you so much to the hard work of the volunteers! πŸ₯³

If you're an organisation looking for a team building day that makes a difference in communities and the environment, please give us a call! 01495222605

The last couple of weeks at Parc Gwledig Cwm DÒr / Dare Valley Country Park, our volunteers have been coppicing goat willow and alder around the lake, vastly improving the view for visitors to the park and creating a wetland area🌳

We then used the cut branches to build woven fences along the water's edge, and placed waterbird nesting boxes within the protected areas πŸ¦†

We had a great time and learnt new skills 🌿

Thanks to the hard work of our volunteers, the wildlife in the park is being protected! πŸ₯³

Fancy making a difference for people and wildlife in your local green space? Everyone's welcome to join!

Sessions at Dare Valley Country Park take place every Wednesday, and run 10am - 12:30pm and 1:30pm - 4pm.
