APPEAL | We are investigating criminal damage near Sturminster Newton and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Between Friday 29 August and Monday 31 August 2026 damage was caused to gravestones at St Gregory Church in Marnhull.

It was reported that several gravestones had been tipped over and broken in half.

Police Constable Jack White, of Dorset Police, said: “This criminal damage has understandably caused a lot of upset and we are carrying out enquiries to establish who was responsible.

“I am keen to hear from anyone with information about what happened or who saw any suspicious activity in the area during the relevant time period.”

NORTH DORSET NPT

🚔☀️ Today, officers from the Sturminster Newton and Shaftesbury Neighbourhood Policing Teams attended the Blandford Summer Fayre. 🎪

✅ Despite a few brief showers, the weather was on our side for most of the day, and it was great to speak with so many members of the public.

✅ We had lots of positive conversations, answered questions, listened to concerns, and of course stopped for a few obligatory photos! 📸

🚶‍♂️🚓 While patrolling the town, we encountered several riders on suspected illegal e-bikes. These individuals clearly made efforts to avoid police on more than one occasion and had no intention of stopping for us.

💬 Interestingly, both before and after this incident, several members of the public approached us independently to raise concerns about illegal e-bike use in the area.

✅ We hear you.
✅ We know about the issue.
✅ We are actively targeting those responsible.

👀 The riders know we're looking for them... and we're not going away.

👮‍♂️ Meet Your Local Team 👋

I'm Sergeant Paul Craig (2494), and I've recently joined the local Neighbourhood Policing Team. While I've only been in this role for a few weeks, I've been a police officer for 20 years and am excited to be back on NPT.

Growing up in an area affected by high levels of crime and deprivation, I saw first-hand the impact that crime and ASB can have on individuals, families, and entire communities. Those experiences inspired me to join the police!
Neighbourhood policing has always been one of the most rewarding parts of my career. I previously worked in neighbourhood policing between 2009-12 before moving into a variety of other roles across the organisation. Throughout my policing career, I've always valued the opportunity to work closely with local people, build relationships, and tackle the issues that matter most to our communities. That's why I was delighted to return to neighbourhood policing and join the team.

Before joining Dorset Police, I worked in several roles, including developing software for a large financial services company. Since joining policing, I've gained experience across a wide range of departments, including:

✅ Tutor Unit
✅ Bespoke Operational Roles
✅ Governance

When you see me or members of the team out on patrol, I want you to feel reassured that we're here and approachable. If you've ever felt nervous about speaking to a police officer, please don't be. We really are here to help. We are all approachable and would love to speak with you.

When I'm off duty, I enjoy spending time with family and friends 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦, and when it comes to the important question... you'll find me happy with either tea or coffee! ☕🍵

PC Matt and PCSO Su have been on patrol in Shaftesbury this evening. Whilst on patrol we witnessed a vehicle being driven by a known revoked license holder. The vehicle has been stopped and seized, and the driver reported to court. The vehicle was also not insured.

Shaftesbury Neighbourhood Policing Team

Over the last week, We have been busy working proactively and responding to incidents across Shaftesbury.
Here is a little snap shot 🖼️ of some of the things we have done.

✅ Liaised with housing authorities regarding local issues and concerns.

✅ Supported a Person experiencing a mental health crisis

✅ Continued to manage and support the resolution of ongoing neighbour disputes.

✅ Worked with partner agencies to address concerns relating to vulnerable individuals.

✅ Attended a licensing hearing concerning Tumblers, which resulted in the premises being closed from future sales.

✅ Oversaw the installation of CCTV in Angel Lane to help deter and provide evidence for any future antisocial behaviour (ASB).

✅ Hotspot patrols in and around Shaftesbury

Overall, The team focused on partnership working, safeguarding vulnerable people, resolving community disputes, regulatory enforcement, and crime prevention measures through improved CCTV coverage.

🚓 Sturminster Newton NPT Weekly Update 🚓

Following our previous weekly update on Monday, this has been a slightly shorter reporting period, but officers have continued working hard to support and protect our communities. 👮‍♂️👮‍♀️

This week we have:

🚗 Attended a multi-vehicle road traffic collision, thankfully with no reported injuries.

🏠 Progressed enquiries into a burglary in Stalbridge.

💙 Supported a person experiencing a mental health crisis.

🤝 Continued working with residents to address an ongoing neighbour dispute.

🚔 Conducted hotspot patrols in Sturminster Newton, Stalbridge and Marnhull to deter anti-social behaviour and provide reassurance to local residents.

Today I had the pleasure of attending a community event at Eagle House Gardens in Blandford, organised by Hari from SNG.
This was a fantastic opportunity for local residents to speak directly with housing officers, ASB officers and myself from the local Neighbourhood Policing Team.
It was a really well-received event, with lots of positive conversations, ideas and concerns being shared. 👮‍♂️🏡
I look forward to working with these residents to help tackle some of the issues raised in their local area and, together, make it an even better place for them to live.

APPEAL | We are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward following a burglary at an address in North Dorset.

Between Thursday 20 August and Monday 24 August 2026, an address in Ring Street in Stalbridge was broken into.

High-value jewellery was stolen, as well as a safe containing documents.

Police Constable Jack White, of Sturminster Newton Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “An investigation is underway and an examination of the scene has been carried out.

“I am appealing to anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area between the relevant dates to please get in touch.

“Also, I would ask residents to check their home CCTV footage for anything may help us identify who was responsible.”

Gillingham Neighbourhood Team have been dealing with anti-social behaviour (ASB) and trying to proactively stop it from taking place as much as we can. This means we have been out on foot later on in the evening of our late shifts this week.

On our patrols at around 10pm on Monday we spoke to various individuals in cars who had loud exhausts, giving words of advice about driving responsibly and turning their engines off when they are parked up. We have had various reports from the community that this is something you have to deal with a lot, so we are working with the council and our Patrol Teams to tackle these problems for you.

PCs Brad and Ash have been engaging with individuals who have been named in these types of incidents, educating them on our powers we have to discourage them from doing this in the future.

We also spoke with various groups of teens on the Meadows and at the skate park, they were all on their best behaviour and we advised them about keeping the noise down and being respectful to people living in the area. Everyone we spoke to was very receptive of our advice, and we had no reports of ASB that evening.

Sgt Dimmack also assisted our Rural Crime Team with a Warrant they had on, as well as the team working with Station Desk Officer Alix who became aware of a theft of a bike. We have been looking at CCTV in the area and have been working to try and reunite the victim with his bike.

We have also been in contact with our colleagues over the border in Wiltshire, information sharing and speaking about incidents and trends which have been taking place locally.

PC Brad will be at Waitrose, Gillingham tomorrow morning at 10:30am to hold the monthly Community Contact Point (CCP).

🚓 Sturminster Newton NPT Weekly Update 🚓

It has been a busy week for your local Neighbourhood Policing Team.

This week we have:

✅ Completed mandatory annual Personal Safety Training.

✅ We held a Community Contact Point outside Marnhull Pharmacy, providing residents with the opportunity to discuss local concerns.

✅ We held a Community Contact Point in Stalbridge.

✅ Conducted high visibility patrols in North Dorset, including targeted patrols at Marnhull Recreation Ground in response to reports of anti-social behaviour at the location.

✅ Assisted with ongoing neighbour disputes.

Thank you to everyone who stops to speak with us whilst we are patrolling and attends our Community Contact Points. The information you provide helps us plan our patrols and tackle the issues reported.
